📘 Student Finance – Plan 5 Repayment Guide
✅ You are on Plan 5 if you started your undergraduate course after 1 August 2023 (Student Finance England).
When do you start paying?
Only when your income is above:
* £25,000 per year
* £2,083 per month
* £480 per week
If you earn less than this → you pay £0
How much do you repay?
You pay:
9% of your income above £25,000
Example:
Salary = £30,000/year
£30,000 − £25,000 = £5,000
9% of £5,000 = £450 per year
➡️ Around £37.50 per month
Interest Rate
✅ Plan 5 uses RPI only
(No extra +3% like older plans)
This is better than older repayment plans.
Important
If you get:
* Overtime
* Bonus
* Extra shifts
You may see deductions from salary.
If yearly income stays below threshold, you may be able to claim a refund.
Simple Truth
Student Finance works more like a graduate tax, not normal debt.
If income is low → repayment is low.
No need to panic 😊
