I’ve been teaching English lit for more than 10 years now, and even after all these years, I continue to find great joy and deep love in the process of explaining and teaching literary analysis to students. Perhaps it’s because I’m also continuously learning with every new text I analyse for class, and with every student responding to one text differently I need to find new, creative ways to adapt my pedagogical approach, which is a challenge I enjoy. In 2025, I’m taking a bold step of changing the way I’ve lived my life in the past decade, and will be taking my educational venture full-time, which hopefully means I can dedicate more time to creating literary study content for you all. I can’t say I’m not anxious about this change, but it’s the only honest decision to make if I wanted to live in a way that’s authentic to my values and vision, which is to create quality educational resources for more people in the world, so that we can deepen our inner life by strengthening our intellectual, cultural, and emotional muscles. And if there’s one thing I believe in, then that is by having great faith - whether in a religion, in fate, or in ourselves - we can navigate through any and all the inevitable challenges and uncertainties in life. I find my faith in connecting to the power of words and narratives, and through my ability to communicate such power with all the students who I’ve ever taught and will go on to teach. ❤️🥰💪🙌

📚CONTEXT OF OTHELLO - 4 KEY FACTS

‘Othello’ is a play set in Renaissance Venice, and specifically against the turbulent backdrop of the Ottoman-Venetian War from 1570-1573. ⚔️

While the play itself is centred on the Mediterranean locations of Venice and Cyprus, Shakespeare was obviously writing for an Elizabethan English audience, most of whom were unlikely to have seen or interacted with Moors like Othello.👨🏿

One of the most challenging aspects of essay-writing exams like English is time management. ⏱🥹

For a lot of students, it’s not as if they don’t have good ideas or can’t put together a decent essay - there just never seems to be enough time for them to express all their ideas in an essay! 🤨
