REPRESENTATION
Harpreet Kaur "Preet" Chandi is a British Army medical officer and physiotherapist who is the first woman of colour to complete a solo expedition to reach the South Pole on 3 January 2022.
We applaud you for filling a space in the outdoors that women of colour have not done before - you’re a pioneer!

During a Diversity Roundtable meeting this week, we heard from Ruhaina Alford-Rahim, Executive Head Teacher, Devon (bottom left photo) who told us about this FREE e-book published by NAHT. It contains 14 powerful stories but 14 leaders. From the foreword, to the introduction to the chapters themselves - a great read which offers challenge and insight.
Also - we were excited to be mentioned in the introduction 🙌🏾

RIP Sislin Fay Allen.
An inspirational, formidable & resilient woman.
‘As the first black female police officer in the Metropolitan police force, she not only paved the way for so many other minority and female officers, she set the bar.’

TAKE A STAND!
As teachers, we build up the confidence and aspirations of the young people we teach.
That resolve you teach, should be used by you too!
Education is a ever changing landscape BUT our morals and values should remain at the centre of what we do.

Dear Teacher,
You do so much with little to no fan fair.
You impart knowledge and expand the minds of many.
You leave a lasting impact and influence on all the students you work with.
For all you have done, do and will do - we thank you!

EVERYDAY INCLUSION.
It’s through changing the everyday and mundane parts of life that sustained change can happen. It’s great to see creating more diversity in their products.
As a teacher, you are empowered in your classroom to do the same.
•It’s in the pictures you choose to use in your PowerPoints.
•It’s in the names you use in your exam questions.
•It’s in the literature you choose to use.
The possibilities are endless - diversity is quite simply giving all a place to be seen.

GARCA MACHEL is so much more than the widow of Nelson Mandela. In this quote, she beautifully summarises the importance of educating the children and young people of today so we can secure a better future.
What if all teachers realised this and kept it as a salient point!?
As we always say at Mindful Equity UK - Education is a social responsibility!

STEPHEN LAWRENCE DAY
In the UK, we had our George Floyd moment with the harrowing case of Stephen Lawrence. We’ve seen debate about yesterday’s conviction: justice vs accountability!
Baroness Doreen Lawrence, has dedicated her life to ensuring her sons death doesn’t go in vein.
In schools up and down the UK, we encourage you to acknowledge and remember Stephen Lawrence and the impact it’s had on the UK.
In the Guardian yesterday, Andrew George, president of the National Black Police Association, said: “There is much more work needed to create a fair and equitable police service for all communities both in the US and here in the UK.”

And just like that it’s the start of the summer term!
If you’re returning today or starting week 2 this morning, just remember that amidst all the noise, workload and day to day life in school, you must take time for you!
Have a great summer term - you’ve got this 💪🏾
