Has your child missed out on vital schooling because of the COVID crisis? Science is a subject which can be difficult to understand without support. Does your child need a helping hand to enable them to catch up? I am ready to help now.
I am an experienced teacher and tutor. I offer face-to-face and online coaching in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Combined Science and Triple Science.
My speciality is tutoring secondary school children studying at KS3 and GCSE sciences (Combined and Triple Science). I also provide dyslexia support.
Recent successes include two of my students obtaining scholarships in private colleges.
I obtained a 2:1 (Hons) degree in Biology from the University of Sussex in 2010 as a mature student, while bringing up my daughter.
WHAT I CAN TEACH
- GCSE Combined Science Trilogy (two awards) and GCSE Triple Science (three awards) - Year 10/11
- KS3 Science - Year 8/9
I cover all the requirements of the UK National Curriculum - AQA, Edexel, OCR.
NOW TUTORING ONLINE!
Due to Covid19, I have been successfully tutoring online.
At first, it was different from tutoring face-to-face in students' homes but, in no time it has become fairly natural again. I can send parents resources in advance of the lesson. I have created Google Classrooms for all the subjects I teach. This means that students will have all the resources they need at their fingertips so that they can work independently in tandem with our online sessions.
HOW I TUTOR
The students that I have helped have experienced success far beyond their expectations as evidenced by their results. Many have gained grades 9, 8 and 7 when they were only predicted to gain 5.
The same success has been achieved with my A level students. This is my approach to tutoring.
First Meeting
I meet the student to assess where the student may need the most significant assistance after listening carefully to their concerns. I endeavour to ascertain their learning style and areas of struggle in the initial meeting. I then provide a taster free session to give them an idea of how I teach.
Ongoing Tutoring
I cover exactly the syllabus course material during the tutoring session so that they are exam-ready.
I explain scientific concepts and test them throughout to see how much they have understood.
I provide a stress-free, quiet environment to enable students who have struggled to gain confidence and catch up. For more able students, I will enable them to reach higher goals and achieve better grades.
Assessment Methods for Exam Success
I thoroughly practice exam questions with students so that they are well-prepared for their exams. My guidance encourages confidence and establishes exam expertise.
I use quizzes prepared by myself, which the students really enjoy. Not only are they receiving exam question practise in a fun way but I can instantly see if they have grasped scientific concepts and provide necessary feedback and assistance.
I provide revision resources such as Google Classroom where they can learn independently.
My Teaching Style
I am told that I am warm, calm, and patient and explain things very well.
I usually find that even after the first session students are beaming with new-found confidence and hope. Many times they have said that I make science really interesting for them. Invariably they say that the lessons seem to fly by.
