Rokeby School recently celebrated a successful and engaging Health Awareness Week, with a wide range of workshops, sporting activities and curriculum-based learning opportunities taking place across all year groups.
Expertly organised by Mr Lastiotis and Ms Bailey-Clouston, the week encouraged students to think about their physical health, mental wellbeing and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Departments across the school embraced the theme, incorporating health-related topics into their lessons.
Students explored AI in medicine, wearable technology and digital wellbeing in Computer Science; mental health and masculinity in English; climate, agriculture and environmental change in Geography; and exercise, homeostasis, muscles and bones in Science. Other activities included discussions around healthy eating, emotions and wellbeing, and the impact of food choices on health.
A particular highlight was the sushi-making workshop led by school chef Mr Macrae, which gave students the opportunity to learn about healthy eating through the art of Japanese cuisine.
A huge thank you to Mr Lastiotis, Ms Bailey-Clouston and all staff who contributed to making the week such a success. Health Awareness Week was a fantastic example of Rokeby's commitment to developing healthy, informed and resilient young people.

A group of Year 9 and 10 students recently travelled to Lille for an exciting residential visit, accompanied by four members of staff. The trip provided a valuable cultural experience, allowing students to immerse themselves in French life and education.
During their stay, students visited Collège Guy Mollet, where they interacted with French students and gained first-hand insight into a typical school day in France. The experience helped to build confidence, communication skills and cultural awareness.
Students also explored the vibrant city centre of Lille, enjoying sightseeing and the opportunity to buy souvenirs.
Students reflected positively on the visit, with Shlok sharing, “I liked the interaction with French students. It was a great experience,” while Amjad said, “I loved the French pastries. They are so yummy!” Naheedjahan added, “It was great to experience how a French school is set up. I loved the interaction with everyone there.”
Overall, the trip was a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.

Our Year 8 students recently enjoyed a memorable trip to the Dickens Museum in Bloomsbury.
During a guided tour of the historic house, students discovered fascinating facts about Charles Dickens’ life and gained a deeper understanding of the Victorian era. The visit included a special focus on ghosts and the Victorian fascination with the supernatural, linking closely to their upcoming gothic writing unit.
The trip will also provide valuable context when students study A Christmas Carol in Year 10.
To round off the day, students had lunch at Coram Fields, the historic playground built on the former site of the Foundling Hospital, which cared for abandoned children in the 18th century.

Today we welcomed author M. G. Leonard to Rokeby to speak with our students about her new book, Hunt for the Golden Scarab, and the inspiration behind it, including her incredible adventures to visit the pyramids and tombs in Ancient Egypt.
We are excited that this book has been selected as Rokeby’s Big Read for 2026, and the school is already beautifully decorated in celebration. It has created a real buzz around reading and storytelling.
We were also delighted to host Selwyn Primary School and Star Primary School for the event, making it a fantastic shared experience for our wider community.
