Are you free to attend a free online seminar I am presenting tomorrow, at 18.30 UK time, Tuesday, 15th Sept - Effective Emotional Management: Tools from the Odyssey?
I will demonstrate a change technique I created called STOIC, which is a process I often use myself, when ruminating on an issue. Attendees will also have the option to practice this with each other at the end of the session if they want.
The other subject I will cover is to explain a longer technique called The Rescripting Process, covered in our October and November courses – how to make lasting change by identifying an unconscious ‘life-script’ and then updating it to align with the way you want to live now.
This is the link to the Odyssey, the idea that so much of our inner-world is guided by stories, some useful, but many unhelpful and repetitive. One of the underlying principles of these classic stories was to mould people into a defined role in society. Sadly, these often confuse us in childhood leading to a sense that we have an unconscious purpose – such as a feeling we are not-enough or we have to shoulder the burden for others. Ultimately, this leads to an ongoing sense of anxiety, an underlying sense that you ‘can’t have it all.’ This then forms our very identity, beyond beliefs – a sense that any change would undermine who we are.
The video features how a parent, with the best of intentions, helps a child form a script. It is only 15 seconds long.
