🎉 Our 2026-27 academic year kicks off this weekend with our annual Tutor Training Day, where we'll be welcoming our brand new tutors and welcoming back our returning tutors!

🧑‍🏫 As the core part of our tutor training and development programme at Tutors United ahead of lessons starting through the autumn, the day will be focused on vital tutoring skills – delivered by experienced teacher trainers – and putting what we learn into practice in small-group classroom scenarios, as well as keeping our pupils safe and well in our lessons.

🧠 We're excited to be joined by an expert guest speaker in the afternoon, with an exciting session on neurodiversity and how we can support our SEN pupils in our in-person and online classrooms – and enable them to excel!

👏 We can't wait to kick-start the year with our team and all of our tutors together on Saturday!

🤝 Every single one of our programmes is a partnership and we couldn't do the work we do without our partners.

🩵💛 Organisations across London, the Midlands, and Liverpool work with us to deliver free, accessible tutoring to primary school pupils in their local communities. Whether they provide community spaces, funding, or outreach, our partners' sense of responsibility and generosity to invest in their residents and their neighbours is what makes Tutors United – and our impact – possible.

😍 We're still glowing from our heartwarming Graduation in Speke – in South Liverpool – with CSL Seqirus and St Christopher's Primary School earlier this summer.

📍 Tutors United has always delivered a community-based tutoring model that brings people together to support and celebrate young people's education journeys.

🤝 Following the end of this programme's first year, this Graduation spotlighted the efforts and achievements of our primary school pupils, their families, our tutors – and the organisations that made the programme possible through their hard work, their support, and their funding.

📢 A big shout out to everyone who made this ceremony and our work in the borough possible – Goldsmiths University of London, The Haberdashers’ Company, Haberdashers’ Academies Trust South, L&Q, The Leathersellers Foundation, Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools, Lewisham Council Housing Services, Lewisham Local, Merchant Taylors’ Company, Mulalley, Peabody, Phoenix Community Housing, and South East Consortium.
 
🗓️ Our programmes supported 107 primary school pupils and their families – alongside hiring, training, and paying 12 university students as tutors and 3 Lewisham residents as classroom assistants – in Lewisham in 2025-26, and we’re so excited to grow our impact in the area in this upcoming academic year!

🎉 This summer saw the conclusion of the inaugural Tutors United Youth Advisory Board! Across six months, 18 young board members – made up of current and former TU pupils – took up leadership roles in shaping our programmes, all while building confidence, communication and decision-making skills, as we ensure their voice has real influence in our organisation.

🎤 We wrapped up the programme in July, with every board member presenting their recommendations to our CEO Amy Whitelock Gibbs and Tutors United’s co-opted advisor on our impact and strategy committee Richard Crellin, to let us know where they feel our charity can improve and grow to better meet their needs and the needs of their families and communities.

📍 We wanted to hear the thoughts of young people from across our programmes, and we’re so grateful that families were able to join us from all over London and beyond, both in-person and online. We had residents from so many of our great partners participate, past and present – Poplar HARCA, Clarion Housing Group, PA Housing, Phoenix Community Housing, Lewisham Council Housing Services, Notting Hill Genesis, Metropolitan Thames Valley, and One Housing.

🩵💛 A massive, massive thank you to PPL for hosting us every month and for making the programme possible, and to Catarina, Nicola, and Vish for giving up their Saturday mornings to support us. A big shout out to our facilitating tutors throughout the Youth Advisory Board – Farhan Raheem and Hafsa Ahmad. And a huge well done to Arran Wylde-Eccles and Racheal Olaitan for creating and running our first-ever Youth Advisory Board so brilliantly and for making sure all of our young participants’ voices were heard.

🙌 At the end of our second year working together, we are so proud of our pupils and programme in Speke, funded by and in partnership with South Liverpool Homes and The Merchant Taylors’ Company.
 
🔢 Over the 2025-26 academic year, we worked with 14 primary school pupils and their families from the local area, hired 4 students as tutors, delivered 6 parent and carer sessions, and saw exciting progress in both Maths and English.
 
🔄 We also hosted an Easter revision session to give our families an extra boost in their learning, particularly ahead of SATs for our Year 6 pupils, which was excellently attended by 19 pupils and parents/carers!
 
🩵💛 A huge thank you to Thomas Hayes, Selina Wall-Aldis, the team at South Liverpool Homes, and Rebecca Pirt and the Merchant Taylors’ Company team for making this programme and impact possible over the last two years. We’re really excited to be continuing our partnership and work in Speke into 2026-27!

🎉 Last month, we brought together the families of L&Q's Beam Park community to celebrate their pupils' achievements throughout the academic year!

🎓 The graduation was filled with a competitive quiz, opportunities for the pupils and their families to reflect on their TU journey, and awards and certificates. All of our pupils were presented with a Certificate of Completion, while three pupils received specific awards highlighting their achievements – Best Progress in Maths, Best Progress in English, and The Aspire Award.

💬 It was a memorable way to celebrate the end of a successful year and reflect on what we have all achieved together – pupils, tutors, families, partners, and staff. One of the parents shared with us that, "The graduation was such a lovely experience! Very useful and a good service, I was happy last year and I'm delighted this year. I wish this could be extended to secondary school!"
