Six students from Years 11 and 12 took part in a Chess Tournament at Hammersmith Academy earlier this month. Unfortunately, despite a very solid performance, including a win against Hammersmith Academy, we did not qualify for the regional tournament.
We are so grateful to parent Alison who has combined a very demanding job with running an extremely efficient second-hand uniform operation for the school. Alison has streamlined, sewn on buttons, made everything beautiful and sustainable and helped out so many parents and pupils with uniform.
Here’s Alison with PTA Treasurer Fiona organising another uniform sale.

Activities Week 2023 was a roaring success. The pupils actively engaged with the tasks in front of them, the staff running the trips and their peers. Whether they were swinging from a harness on a bridge at ‘Go-Ape’ or back or admiring sculptures in a park, the pupils were perfect ambassadors of WLFS!

WLFS pupils on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition.
During May half-term Noah (Y9) completed the Volunteering Activity required for his Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award by walking some 33,000 steps up (and down) Ben Nevis (Britain's highest mountain). It even involved another night camping on-site! His aim to raise £540 to provide one month's accommodation for a vulnerable young person with the charity Centre Point has now raised over £1000, so he will donate enough for two months. Good job Noah!
Noah was one of many WLFS Year 9 students who decided to participate in getting their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award this year and the DofE website have recorded their highest number of young people starting their DofE with over 323,000 (29.9% of 14 year olds).

Thank you so much to Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands for hosting us. The visit illustrated what a multi-faceted industry architecture is and provided an excellent opportunity for the pupils to see what goes on in an architecture firm and the variety of projects going on.
Our very own Year 7 music scholars are featured in a new song 'Flying Swimming Dredging' by August Cooke. Thank you to Mrs Smith, who led the singers, and to Mr Higginbottom, who used to teach drums at WLFS, for getting our scholars involved.
