UNDOING: “Selling Her Body, Not Her Sport” 🙅🏼‍♀️

We didn’t fight for decades to be a sexualised commodity.

With the recent release of the Sydney Sweeney ad for Novig I needed a minute to digest it all. No shade to Sydney, but she is not an athlete… and that seems to be exactly the point.

I used to be an athlete and this is what’s always stayed with me: the mentality of what it takes to be the best version of yourself. I learnt how to push yourself out of my comfort zone, what comes with sacrifice, and the dedication to improving - any part of myself.

This ad is not only disrespectful to every woman who’s fought for the advancements we’ve made in sport, but to us as a collective and our fight for equality.

To me, this ad says: In order for a demographic of men to watch women’s sport, it must be sexualised.

This is for the athlete, the mom, the person who rolls out of bed to take the class, the one who chases a new physical challenge, the one curious about what their body can do and to EVERY woman that KEEPS GOING even if it’s hard or painful.

Our bodies and worth were never on sale.

So let’s keep proving that women do it better. 💪🏼
