๐คซ๐Listen as one of our children finishes his work with the Montessori bells ๐๐
The Montessori Bells are a beautiful example of a Sensorial material, designed to isolate a single quality from the environment and refine the child's senses.
Two sets of identical-looking bells, distinguishable only by their sound, invite children to listen deeply, match, and grade, developing their auditory discrimination in the most natural way.
This is a material children return to again and again throughout their time in the Children's House, and the gentle sound of the bells ringing through the classroom brings something truly special to the life of our community ๐

Every day in our classrooms, we encourage children to take part in real, everyday tasks that help develop independence, self-confidence, and capability. From getting dressed to putting on their own shoes, these small moments build far more than independence. They nurture confidence, perseverance, and allow the children to develop a sense of pride in their achievements โจ
As Maria Montessori said, โhelp me to do it myselfโ, which is a philosophy we embrace every day in our classrooms ๐ฑ
โ๏ธ As the days start to warm up, we have been making the most of our outdoor spaces and getting out into the garden as much as possible ๐ธ
Whether it is imaginative play, sowing seeds or watering the plants, our outdoor spaces are a place where the children can let off steam, explore their surroundings and connect with nature ๐ท ๐
โจHave you ever wondered what a full Montessori morning looks like? Watch the video to find out! โ๏ธ
The morning began with careful work with the metal insets, refining pencil control and preparing the hand for writing.
Later, he asked a friend: โDo you want to do a puzzle map together?โ Together they completed the puzzle map of Europe, collaborating and helping one another.
After some quiet time with a book and snack with friends, he received an individual lesson with the small decimal cards, exploring the symbols for the quantities that he has recently been working with.
He then chose to practise his scissor skills, wash the cloths from the laundry basket, and even stopped to rebuild the Pink Tower when he noticed it hadnโt been returned correctly to its stand.
The work cycle finished with walking on the line, followed by imaginative play in the garden where he and his friends created a pizza restaurant.
๐A morning full of concentration, collaboration, care for the environment, and creativity in the Children's House๐

In our Clapham and Clapham Park Montessori 3โ6 classrooms, numbers come to life through hands-on exploration, using a wide variety of materials to introduce and reinforce mathematical concepts.
Here are just a few examples: โจ
The Short Bead Stair reinforces counting and sequence from 1โ9 in a tangible, hands-on way.
The Teen Boards introduce quantities and symbols from 11โ19, helping children grasp the structure of numbers beyond ten.
Numbers and Counters reinforce the understanding that each number is made up of separate quantities, connecting quantities to symbols and introducing the concepts of odd and even numbers, while also paving the way for understanding divisibility.
The Golden Beads offer a concrete, sensorial experience of the relationship between the four categories of the decimal system (units, tens, hundreds and thousands). Through these wonderful materials, children are introduced to place value and the four basic mathematical operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Our carefully prepared environment is designed to guide children all the way to age 6 with materials that grow with them, gently increasing in challenge and abstraction as their understanding deepens. These purposeful materials give children a concrete experience of maths, nurturing concentration, confidence, and a genuine love of numbers that will stay with them for years to come.
Learning maths the Montessori way is all about discovery, independence, and joy! ๐ข๐๐
