2025-2026, what a wonderful year we have had at Montessori Clapham! ✨

The past academic year was filled with learning, curiosity, creativity, discovery and joy across all four of our Montessori Clapham environments — Parent & Baby, Infant Community, Clapham Park and Clapham Montessori. 🌿

💛 A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful parents and families for being such an important part of our community and for sharing another special year with us 💛

To all the children moving on to their next adventure at big school, we wish you the very best of luck! 🌟 And to those returning in September, we can’t wait to welcome you back for another year of exploration, independence and discovery.

☀️🍉🍓Summer school at Clapham Park Montessori! 🌞🍐🖌

The ‘Summer School’ week at Clapham Park Montessori was full of discovery and creativity! The children enjoyed plenty of activities including arts, crafts and lots of food preparation - making smoothies, juices and salads to keep cool and hydrated during the warm days.

🦜Our focus for the week was birds - the children learned to recognise some common garden birds and created their very own bird spotting guides with beautiful collage illustrations. We rounded off the five days with lots of colourful summer-themed crafts and activities to enjoy over the holidays ☀️⭐️

🦋 A favourite part of the summer term is watching the wonderful butterfly lifecycle first-hand in the classroom 🦋

Every year, the children have the wonderful opportunity to watch the magic of metamorphosis unfold before their eyes 🐛➡️🦋. We feed and nurture our caterpillars as they grow, form their chrysalises and transform into butterflies.

Once they have emerged as butterflies we release them into nature, giving the children a chance to celebrate this incredible journey and say goodbye as they watch their butterflies fly free 🌿💛

📚In a Montessori classroom, our children are carefully prepared for reading through meaningful experiences with language, sounds and letters. Then suddenly the pieces come together, and result in what we call the 'explosion of reading' 🌟.

A few posts back, we saw this child sounding out his very first words… and now, he is reading books! 📖

This is the beauty of the Montessori approach: following the child, meeting them where they are, and giving them the time, tools and confidence to develop at their own pace.

Our aim is to not only prepare children for their next step into 'big school', but also to foster within them a lifelong love of reading and learning ✨

🙌✍️ At the heart of our Montessori principles is a belief in every child's potential and in nurturing the mathematical mind: their natural curiosity, their instinctive draw towards order and pattern.

Our role at Clapham Park Montessori is to prepare the environment, provide the materials, and follow the child. The Golden Beads offer a sensorial experience of quantity, and when the decimal cards are introduced, the child makes the connection between felt quantity and graphic symbol. Joyful, and profound.

We are committed to following and guiding each child as far as they will go. As Maria Montessori herself said:

"It is true that we cannot make a genius. We can only give to each child the chance to fulfil his potential possibilities." 🙌💚

📚✍️🔤 What a joy it is, as we near the end of the academic year, to watch the children discover the written word, sounding out, analysing, synthesising, and feeling the thrill of it all click into place.

Montessori activities for writing and reading focus, from the very start, on fostering a love of language and books: enriching vocabulary, tuning the ear to the sounds within words, and nurturing the idea that the written word carries the thoughts of its writer.

And from here? The sky’s the limit! 📚🙌🔤
