Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our SEND Families Together Summer Social Connections Event!
Funded by Hertfordshire County Council’s 2026 Summer Social Connections grant, the event was an uplifting moment for Wormley Community Centre and Broxbourne Big Local.
Families and professionals have been telling us they need more SEND support outside the usual referral routes, so we listened. Yesterday showed exactly what happens when the community leads the way: families connecting, children feeling comfortable and welcome, and local people who have built their own charities and support networks coming together to help one another.
This free community meal gave families a chance to share ideas, experiences and what support would help them most, which will guide our new groups and future projects. Wormley Community Centre is becoming a place where residents and grassroots charities can grow their ideas, and we’re proud to support new community‑led charities as they develop. Many families who don’t usually come out joined us, and left saying they felt welcome and wanted to return more often.

Sense Assist, Neurodiversity Wellbeing, Windrush Legacies, The Listening Chair, The Phoenix Group, Flow with Stories, OneYMCA, our Trustees, SEND teachers, our on‑site nursery team, and all attendees who came with openness and honesty.
Thank you also to Corina Gander (Head of Broxbourne Council) and Cllr Jim Clune for supporting community‑led SEND initiatives.
The message from families was clear: they want more of these supportive, welcoming events. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to keep building what our residents tell us they need and to continue helping new local charities grow through this building.
