In our programmes, we aim to create the ‘ultimate work experience’ through interactive simulations, site visits, seminars, networking sessions and career coaching guidance. We offer experiences in multiple careers, including (but not limited to) STEM-related professions such as Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science, and several areas of Law and Finance. We work with industry leading experts, giving students a unique insight into their chosen career path. The theoretical components of our programmes are developed by members of the academic faculty at Imperial College, London.

Why is medical experience so difficult to find as a teenager?

A lot of aspiring doctors start looking early

Only to find that most opportunities are designed for older students.

You might come across:

❌ Hospital shadowing with 18+ age requirements
❌ Opportunities you’re not eligible for yet
❌ Limited access to doctors and clinical settings
❌ Even fewer options if you live outside the UK

And eventually, it can feel like your only option is to wait.

But being under 18 doesn’t mean you can’t start exploring medicine.

Still haven’t done anything “productive” this summer?

You still have time and your passion project can be
much simpler than you think.

Start with something you’re already curious about,
a skill you want to try, or a problem you keep noticing.

Pick ONE project you’d actually
enjoy doing.

Then:
- keep it small enough to finish
- document what you tried, changed, and learned, save photos,
screenshots, drafts, data, or results
- if you can, let real people try it and give you feedback

Your project doesn’t need to be huge. What matters is what you did, learned, and improved along the way.

That can say far more about you than simply naming the subject you want to study.

Save this, pick ONE idea, and start before summer ends.

If you’re still figuring out what career fits you,

start with these 3 questions:

1. WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS DO YOU LIKE SOLVING?
Think about what naturally pulls you in.

Helping someone understand something?
Figuring out why something isn’t working?
Creating something from nothing?
Organising chaos?
Coming up with new ideas?

Don’t name a career yet.
Look for the pattern.

2. WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU DREAD GOING TO WORK EVERY DAY?
Sometimes knowing what you DON’T
want makes it easier to see what you do.

Sitting behind a desk all day?
Talking to people nonstop?
Doing the same thing every day?
Constant pressure?
An unpredictable schedule?

Write down your non-negotiables.
Every “no” helps narrow down your “yes.”

3.WHAT DO YOU WANT A NORMAL TUESDAY TO LOOK LIKE?
Not your dream life.
Just a regular Tuesday.

Where are you working?
Who are you around?
How busy are you?
How much freedom do you have?
What are you spending most of your day doing?

Because you’re not just choosing a career.

You’re choosing what a big part of your everyday life could look like.

Don’t try to answer everything while scrolling.

Save this post.

Come back when you have 10 quiet minutes, write down your answers, and look for the patterns.

They might tell you more about your next step than another list of careers ever will.
