📚For centuries, diet culture has created arbitrary rules that make you do things in the name of “health and fitness” that are actually harmful. These disordered behaviors remove your ability to listen to your body, yet are commonly applauded in society.
🏋🏼♀️1. Exercising when exhausted. Being tired is a sign that your body needs rest & recovery time. You don’t need more “willpower,” you just need to rest.
🍕2. Avoiding entire food groups. Food has been studied since the 19th century and nutritional science has never once deemed a whole food group as toxic. There is nothing you need to avoid completely unless for a medical reason. A healthful life contains all the food groups.
🤭3. Not eating when you’re hungry b/c of calories. Hunger is as simple biological sign, just like needing to p*e. If you ignore your hunger, your body is going to increase your desire to eat (resulting in a binge, the same way you’d p*e yourself if you held it in). Meet the needs your body is asking for.
🍫4. Cheat days. These are just planned binges…need I say more? When you eat enough and enjoy fun foods regularly, cheat days are unnecessary.
📲5. Tracking every calorie and macro consumed. We are NOT a math equation. It is impossible to know exactly what your needs are day to day. If you’re consumed with counting, you’re telling your body you don’t trust it and in turn, it will stop trusting you back.
⌚️6. Needing to wear a fitness watch while exercising. I’ve had clients before tell me they cancelled a fitness class when their watch died. Your body doesn’t discount the benefits of a workout based on your watch’s metrics.
