At first glance, the walls can look a little crooked… but there’s some serious maths and engineering behind them. 📐

The Incas used angled walls, trapezoid shapes and tightly fitted stones, helping their buildings cope with earthquake movement.

Hundreds of years later, the design still speaks for itself. 🇵🇪

Maths really is everywhere.

If you’re a parent looking at GCSE Maths today and thinking, “I don’t remember it being like this…” you’re not imagining it 😅

GCSE Maths has changed — from the old Foundation, Intermediate and Higher tiers to today’s 9–1 system, with much more emphasis on problem solving and reasoning.

The good news: you don’t need to relearn GCSE Maths to support your child. Start by understanding their tier, the topics they’re struggling with, and where the gaps are.

Parents of Year 10 and Year 11 students — did you realise how much GCSE Maths had changed?

Year 11 has started.

You do not need to panic.

You do not need to start revising everything at once.

What you do need to work out is this:

What is actually holding you back in Maths right now?

Your algebra?
Fractions?
Percentages?
Problem solving?
Careless mistakes?

Because the student who fixes one weakness at a time between now and Christmas will be in a completely different position from the student who waits until March.

You don’t need to be GCSE-ready now.

You just need to start moving in the right direction.

A quick hello to everyone who’s joined me here recently 👋🏾

This page will always be rooted in maths and education, but over the years I’ve realised there’s so much more around it too — confidence, exams, parenting, careers and helping young people make better decisions.

I’ll share what I’ve learnt as a teacher, former Head of Maths and, just as importantly, as a dad still navigating the education system with my own children.
