Holiday Tips! 🎉
Lots of my clients have been asking me for advice to help their dogs settle whilst on staycation.
✅ Bring with your dogs ‘safe space’ (most likely a crate or bed).
✅ Teach a strong ‘settle’ cue
✅ Try and maintain your routine even in this new environment
✅ Avoid leaving the dog alone in the new place even if you usually would at home
✅ Bring lots of natural, long lasting chews and kongs to keep them busy
✅ Expect your dog May appear to forget some of your training
✅ Keep a nearby emergency vets number handy
✅ Enjoy watching them experience all the new things!

Almost every day I speak to people who's number one 'problem behaviour' is bad recall. This may sound like a minor problem compared to the separation anxiety or aggression cases I work on, but unreliable recall can be dangerous.

Not having a dog that can return on cue means that traffic, other dogs and even just seeing people are constant causes of concern. This in turn means that walks aren't very relaxing if you're constantly scanning the enviroment for potential problems, or that your dog isnt able to enjoy off-lead freedoms.

This is why training people how to teach a good, solid recall is one of my top priorities!

Your dog doesn't come back when it sees other dogs, but you want your dog to be able to have off leash freedom?
This takes time and consistency (as well as a good technique of course!)
One of the most important aspects of recall training that I see often overlooked is gradually increasing levels of distractions.
This practically means that for the first few sessions you may want to start in the garden or a completely empty field.
Once training is mastered here you can start recalling with dogs in the distance and so on!
Taking baby steps will massively pay off in the long run so there’s no need to rush!

Hi Guys, my name is Annie!

I train dog parents how to become better dog trainers! I'm a firm believer that absolutely anyone can train their dog if given good direction and help. Dog training shouldn't be complicated, and it should always make sense! I've been helping owners to train their dogs and fix unwanted behaviour for 3 years now since completing my BSc in Animal Behaviour at Exeter University.
My goal is to help owners and dogs learn to speak each others language (so to speak) so that training becomes fun for both you and the dog. All dogs want to learn, we just need to know how to motivate them and thats where I come in. Using reinforcment based training my job is to help you communicate effectively to your dog so that he/she is able to be moulded into your perfect companion.
