Are you ready to move on?

So, you think you are ready to move on. You’re not alone. I often get contacted by clients who feel they are ready to move on; ready for the next stretch or getting frustrated on being stepped over or overlooked. It’s time they tell me to move on; move ahead; get focused. They want to get a grip, take charge, start to take ownership, change direction or supercharge their next move.

There is nothing wrong with feeling like this. We’ve all been there. It is frustrating, demotivating and worse still it can crush any confidence you have if you are not where you thought you’d be or where you want to be.

But where the magic comes is spending time unpacking if you are ready to move on. And what that looks like for you. Taking a pause to reflect on where you’ve come from, what you want and what you need before you move on. Because often you haven’t given yourself the chance to step back, look at what you have, what you’ve learnt, what has or still is holding you back.

And it may be that you realise you aren’t ready to move – that perhaps there is more you can achieve in your current role or career. But also, that if you do decide to move on, you can be in a stronger place to decide what you want and how you go about it.

So..what is a career and development coach?

Good question! I first came across coaching when I became a manager many years ago. I was so fortunate to be given some time with a career & development coach to support me during this transition.

I can honestly say I don’t think I could have done it without her. It is such a step change moving from specialist to a leader and manager.

She gave me space to talk openly about my new opportunities and challenges but also how to get to know myself better, believe in my strengths and experiences and how to either push through or plan for any curve balls.

The way I approach coaching and mentoring is that it’s all about you as an individual. We will get to know each other; work out where you want or need support; make sure you are supported yet stretched - and importantly get to the heart of what you want to achieve and help you to reset and get re-energised, motivated and focused.

I find what works best for my clients is a blend of coaching and mentoring – helping you to think through your own path but also providing mentoring to give you perspectives or work through examples as needed.

Together we’ll cover any topic that is important to you – from career or role transitions or decisions; how to focus on the next step up; how to lean into leadership; taking on new teams or taking you and others through change; preparing for interviews through to building your confidence and personal brand.

I’ve just returned from a weekend in Paris with my sister and my 9 year old nephew. He’s obsessed with all things transport and travel 🚆🚉🚇

I am one of four girls and my parents now have 11 grandchildren aged 25 to 6 - quite impressive! Despite some similar family traits, me and my sisters and all of the grandchild are so different.

And that’s a great thing. Everyone has their unique strengths and if I realised one thing across my personal & working life, it’s that you need to lean on, use and grow these strengths - and try to apply that childhood curiosity & joy of the simple things.

So thank you Arthur for teaching me and your mum more about Paris and its Metro system than I ever knew as a child! I hope you continue to follow what you love ❤️

So why didn’t I take the leap sooner?!

For so many reasons, I didn’t do this sooner. But I am so glad that I did finally take the leap!

I’ve had a busy start to my coaching business and I am absolutely loving it! I’ve got some amazing clients who are so focused on taking charge of their careers and development – from new leadership opportunities, getting ready to prepare for applications and interviews through to career change and transitions and building their strengths and confidence.

On international women’s day, I want to say thank you to my tribe of women & men who have been there for me through tough times and also been the first to celebrate the good times or know when to push me forwards. You know who you are 🥰. These two very different but amazing women are my grandmothers - they taught me, without me realising at the time, to be me, be strong, be kind - and to have fun and a glass of wine or two!

A day of a million thoughts … but an early evening walk sorted it

So, after a much loved Summer break, I’m really excited to share an update on my new venture/adventure, Amelia K Coaching - my new business focused on career and development coaching & mentoring.

Those who have worked with me or I’ve coached or mentored know that I am completely passionate about the positive impact good coaching and mentoring can have on your career, personal development and growth.

They also know my mantra that you grow the most when you step out of your comfort zone - even just a little - and that you often surprise yourself by doing this. So Amelia K Coaching is my way of following my own advice to step into the fear!

And so far I’ve had such fun setting this up and learnt so much. I’m now looking forward to working with my first few clients who have booked onto programmes and helping them make a difference to their careers and personal development.
