A little bit of exciting news… I’m starting a PhD! 🎓🎶

This autumn, I’ll be beginning my doctoral research at Birmingham City University, exploring the place and value of musicianship skills within Key Stage 2 curriculum music lessons in England.

After more than 20 years working in music education (as a teacher, choir leader, workshop facilitator and researcher) it feels incredibly exciting (and slightly terrifying) to be taking this next step.

I’m particularly interested in how musicianship is understood by teachers, how it shapes their classroom decisions and, most importantly, how it is experienced by children. I’d love to hear what you have to say about this.

There will be lots to learn, read, question and discover and I’m looking forward to sharing parts of the journey along the way!

Yesterday was an absolute JOY! 🎶✨

After a whole year of making music together, it was so wonderful to present our children’s concert at the Royal College of Music and celebrate everything these brilliant young musicians have achieved.

They sang, played, listened, performed and threw themselves into the music with such energy and enthusiasm. Watching their confidence grow over the year was incredibly special. 🥹❤️

I feel so lucky to work with such wonderful children and to be part of their musical journeys. Days like yesterday are a very happy reminder of why I love what I do so much.

What a way to end the academic year

Goodbye little floof. We loved you so much and were privileged to give you a loving home for so long.

Today was wonderful. A beautiful culmination of months of work with the and team. My wonderful co-presenter and I witnessed children feel that incredible sense of pride and belonging within the classical music arena. It was great to see them rise to the occasion under the leadership of !

Wonderful, just wonderful. This could not have not have happened without the wonderful Beth Thomas and Phil Sizer.
