I didn’t just need to remove music from my life.
I needed to replace it with something greater.
For years, music had my attention because I understood it. I understood the words, the rhythm and what I was hearing.
But when I became Muslim, I would hear the Qur’an and not understand what Allah was saying.
Learning Arabic changed that.
There is something completely different about standing in ṣalāh and understanding the words of Allah as they are being recited.
It changed my relationship with the Qur’an, my ṣalāh and ultimately my relationship with Allah.
And that is something I want every Muslim to experience.
If you’re ready to stop simply hearing the Qur’an and start understanding it, type “LEARN ARABIC” below.

Sadly, many Muslims found this video funny.
But when I watched it, we found it heartbreaking.
Not because people were saying “Ameen” at the wrong time.
But because it reminded us how many Muslims have spent their entire lives hearing Arabic without understanding it.
When hearing the Qu’ran.
During Prayer.
At Jumu’ah.
In Taraweeh.
At a janazah.
During Umrah & Hajj.
And it isn’t their fault.
Most Muslim were taught how to read Arabic, but never taught how to understand it.
As a result, many sincere Muslims have been left disconnected from the language of the Qur’an and the du’as they hear throughout their lives.
The beautiful thing is that it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Understanding the Qur’an and understanding the du’as you hear is far more achievable than most people realise.
Type “Learn Arabic” below if you’d like to learn how.

When I first became Muslim, I stood in prayer reciting words I didn’t understand.
I would hear the Imam recite verses that moved people to tears and hear beautiful du’as, yet I had no idea what was being said.
The more I practised Islam, the more it bothered me.
How could the Qur’an guide me if I couldn’t understand it?
That’s when I made it my mission to learn Arabic.
What started in a small apartment in England eventually led me to Saudi Arabia, where I spent 10 years studying Arabic and Islamic sciences.
Learning Arabic transformed my prayer, my relationship with the Qur’an, and my connection with Allah.
It’s also why I founded Ijaada Institute.
