Campaign for Ofsted Reform

The damage Ofsted does to the wellbeing of staff in our schools is unacceptable. The high stakes accountability, unrealistic expectations and one-word judgements are harming the the profession and contributing to recruitment and retention crisis. Schools shouldn't spend their days waiting for the phone to ring and lying awake at night praying for the 'right team'. Please sign and share this petition to bring about inspection reform and help look after our teachers and TAs as much as they look after our children and young people.

Petition: Urgently review the current Ofsted Framework and associated methodology In light of recent events, and in meaningful consultation with the sector, review the Ofsted framework and methodology, which we believe are overly burdensome and do little to improve school performance. Government should urgently consider the impact of Ofsted on the wellbeing of education staff.

Schools are facing unprecedented challenges - more challenging behaviour, low attendance rates, deficit budgets, inability to access services, high thresholds for support and the declining mental health of children, staff and communities in a cost of living crisis. Working in schools has never been tougher. The current Ofsted inspection system does not reflect the difficulties we all now face - it is unnecessarily high stakes and is having a severe impact on the wellbeing of colleagues, ruining lives and causing a recruitment and retention crisis. The tragic su***de of Ruth Perry has prompted the profession to speak up about the anxiety caused by waiting for the call, the fear of the wrong team, the unrealistic expectations and the reality of what will happen if they get the 'wrong' grade. We have had enough and it is now time for Ofsted reform, accountability is essential, but not in its current form.
