Exciting news! Ellie Aldridge, sister of PE teacher Miss Holly Aldridge, who visited Broomwood in May, has just made history by winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s kiteboarding! 🥇🎉 Congratulations, Ellie!

When asked earlier this year by one of our pupils if you had won a medal, your response was, “I haven’t got an Olympic medal YET!” You’ve beautifully embodied our Broomwood ‘Yeti’ Power, where children learn they might not be able to do something …yet!

The entire Broomwood community is bursting with pride and joy for you, Ellie! We can’t wait to welcome you back to Broomwood, this time with your gold medal!

We are delighted and proud to be shortlisted for the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2024, in the category of Student Well-being. To be recognised from more than 1000 nominations is an honour and reflects the forward-thinking teaching and pastoral care at Broomwood.

Staff were praised for embarking on a pupil well-being survey, listening to children, and shaping their pastoral care accordingly, whilst also stretching pupil’s learning.
The final results of the ISOTY Awards 2024 will be announced at an award ceremony in October.

It is a fabulous end to a fantastic year, where we also celebrated winning the Private Schools Award 2024; receiving a Highly Commended award in the Passionate About Sport category from Muddy Stilettos and being finalists in this year’s Education Choices Awards.

We look forward to continuing our path of improvements and excellence in the coming year. Congratulations to all for a remarkable year!

Thank you and a fond farewell to all our amazing GAP assistants, who do such a fantastic job supporting the school and its students, as well as being a friendly face and ear for pupils.

A special mention to former Broomwood pupils and current GAP assistants, Frederick, Jacob, Toby and Alex who are off to study at Oxford (PPE), Warwick (economics), Nottingham (history) and Exeter (finance & economics) respectively.

We wish them all well for their next ventures and congratulate them on their achievements.

We celebrated all of our Year 2 and 3’s during their special leavers’ services and “after parties” 🎉🍦

We wish them a fond farewell as they move on up from the Pre-Prep. We will miss them hugely as they have been such a joyous and energetic cohort. However, we know we will see them again as they pop back to visit or in September

Boys and girls from across Broomwood have been celebrating our win at the Private Education Awards, 2024.

We are proud that Broomwood was singled out for its inclusive approach to learning and pastoral care at all stages. The judges were impressed with our thematic learning in Pre-Prep, where each child has the opportunity to explore topics using different learning styles, ensuring that everyone can access the material in a way that suits them best. Staff were also praised for embarking on a pupil wellbeing survey, listening to children, and shaping their pastoral care accordingly, whilst also stretching pupil learning to achieve 11+ and 13+ scholarships at schools such as Brighton College, Wi******er, Woldingham and Dulwich. The breadth of our offering was demonstrated by the 42 scholarships awarded to competitive senior schools across a range of disciplines including academic, drama, music, art and sport.

Broomwood: Winners of the Most Inclusive Prep School, London 2024

Hear ye! Hear ye! The Year 3 production of Hoodwinked, the story of Robin Hood and his merry men, was performed in the hall. The cheap seats were filled instantly as crowds of parents and pupils rushed to see ye caste perform in what could only be described as a true spectacle. Despite a couple of carrier pigeons escaping, and the odd arrow injury, Robin Hood managed to cheer up those grumpy villagers and King Richard restored the peace in Nottingham.
Congratulations to all those who performed. You were fantastic!

Thrilled to have been Highly Commended Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024, for our approach to sport.

Using occupational therapy techniques, we’ve developed a ‘core strength’ programme for our youngest children to promote confidence, fine and gross motor skills. Higher up the school we’ve introduced core fitness training, so that even those who don’t see themselves as ‘naturals’ can achieve more than they thought possible. PE isn’t regarded as a standalone lesson but is very much part of the curriculum – inclusive and fun! And our results are outstanding, we enjoy successes in tournaments and competitions across a wide range of sports as well as pupils achieving many sports scholarships and awards at 11/13+

It was an afternoon of cricket skills for the boys and girls in Years 2 & 3. They were able to work on their skills in batting, bowling, throwing and catching and then impressed with their match play.

Today, in the sunshine on the terrace Broomwood Prep - Girls we enjoyed a lunch to thank the PA and reps and celebrate all their hard work over the past year.
We are so proud of the Broomwood parent community and how this parent involvement makes our school so special.

As well as organising amazing events for the pupils, such as summer fairs and leavers’ discos, the PA raise awe inspiring funds for our charities Royal Trinity Hospice Little Village HQ amongst others.

We have been celebrating & in Pre-Prep. As well as studying the oceans in class, there are a number of activities ongoing.

As King Charles appoints David Beckham to be the UK’s first ‘Bee Ambassador’ we have been working on our own project to attract butterflies and bees Broomwood Pre-Prep
Our gardener, Michael is working with Mark, Head of Facilities, to refurbish the green space on top of our hall. This area is visible from the classrooms but there is no access for children, so it is perfect for creating a wildlife habitat. They are installing a new irrigation system and will be refreshing the plants to create an attractive space for insects and birds. No doubt our little nature enthusiasts will report back on what they see.

Our Eco Warriors, Georgia and Henry continue to lead recycling efforts, reminding us what can be recycled and what can’t. It’s a no to paint and tissues!

We are proud of all our children who continue to cycle, walk and scoot to school. After visited and checked and made safe over 40 bikes, the bike and scooter parks have never been more full!

We look forward to seeing what fantastic ideas and changes our school council and eco warriors and wider community will come up with next!

We are delighted to have achieved a ringing endorsement from parents who also praised the school for its ‘inclusive and happy’ atmosphere and overall excellence. All the participants agreed that Broomwood Pre-Prep helps children to be confident and independent – ready to move on to Broomwood Prep - Boys and Broomwood Prep - Girls and to take advantage of all the opportunities on offer!

Special Visitors Tea.

We had an amazing morning on Wednesday celebrating our Reception children! They performed a collection of songs beautifully to their visitors and smiled the entire time.

The children then had the chance to share their books with their visitors, proudly showcasing all of their hard work.

Our special guests even got to sample some delicious handmade treats. Despite the weather, everyone left with a smile on their face and "Here Comes the Sun" echoing in their ears. 🌞

Year 3 had a fantastic time away on their residential. The children learnt basic survival skills, built fires and shelters, identified trees and mini beasts, and some even performed in the talent show! It was an amazing opportunity for the children to step out of the comfort zone, form new friendships and create lifelong memories. 🔥🏕️

Every day is outdoor play and learning for Reception and Little Broomwood in our fantastic garden …..but in the sunshine today, dare we think summer is finally on its way!

No less than 42 scholarships awarded at 11/ 13+ from a cohort of 103. Over half of these were for academic achievement and the rest for Drama, Art, Sport and Music. A true reflection of the breadth of education we offer. We are proud of all our students who will be moving on to some of the top schools in London and further afield, both Co-ed and single s*x.

Continuing and our transition to Broomwood Prep - Girls, our Year 2 & 3’s had a fantastic day in the Science labs with exploding jelly babies, chip pan fires and a launching rocket! 💥They also got to handle various lab equipment and look at the investigations we carry out in the Prep school.🔬

This week, Year 2 were visited by Jonathan’s Animal Roadshow 🐛 The children met many weird and wonderful creatures, including a glow in the dark scorpion and a snake called Rafiki 🦂

The children enjoyed their visit to Balham Library where they leant about the role of a librarian and had a story read to them.📚🌟

What a fantastic way to end 📚The children were incredible to perform with such confidence and in front of such a large audience this morning. A big congratulations to all the finalists, they should be very proud of their performances. And a big thank you to Mrs Harman for leading the whole school recital of ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.’
