Jubilee activities this week, carrying on the celebrations! 🇬🇧
The children enjoyed playing with the small world castle, king and queen, and princesses in the play tray. We sang 'the wheels on the bus' while we played with the small world London buses.
The children also enjoyed playing with the coloured rice which I made into a Union Jack. I spoke about the colours, and the patterns. They loved scooping up the rice into cups and teapots so we could pretend to make some tea.
I made some play dough which I coloured blue, red and white. The children decided to place some jewels and small world princesses into the dough.
We also made crowns and decorated them with lots of sparkly things!

Before the half term our topic was 'minibeasts'.
We put on our wellies and went into the forest to find some minibeasts in their natural habitat.
The children enjoyed finding them and were even brave enough to hold a caterpillar in their hands!
We looked at books about the creatures and played with small world minibeasts in the play tray that I set up for the children to explore.
A few other activities were also set up to help the children with their fine motor skills and counting, and to further their learning of minibeasts.

I also set up some play trays for the younger children to enjoy 😊

Lots of pancake day fun for the children this week.
For the younger children I set up a sensory/messy play tray for them to explore. They loved getting messy with the flour as they practiced their motor skills by scooping, pouring and mixing the flour with kitchen utensils. I also made some play dough so they were able to make pancakes.
The older children enjoyed playing with the play dough too - making pancakes and flipping them up in the air with a frying pan.
I also set up the 'pancake cafe' which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
We ate lots of pancakes too! ☺

I teamed up with another childminder to celebrate Chinese New Year with the younger children. As it is the year of the tiger we took inspiration from this and coloured some rice black and orange to make tiger stripes in the tuff tray so that the children could learn patterns and use the scoops, cups and pots to practice their motor skills and chopsticks for mark making.
We also set up an activity based around the book 'the tiger who came to tea' to invite the children to use their imaginations and role play. The children also enjoyed listening to the story.
Some of the children also dressed up in traditional Chinese outfits.
We all had such a lovely time! 😊🇨🇳

Chinese New Year! Year of the Tiger 🐅
The after school children had a go at using chopsticks to pick up their Chinese snacks and then we made some Chinese New year crackers which were filled with chocolate treats 😋
