Kickstarting our with Debussy 💪🎶
Pictured are Prelude No. 8 ‘La fille aux cheveux de lin (The girl with the flaxen hair) and Images Book 1 ‘Reflets dans l’eau’ (Reflections in the water).

Our favourite piano books for absolute beginners 👀
Faber has an incredible selection of books that are beginner-friendly. The ‘Piano Adventures’ are ideal for beginners, and offer a series of companion books in different styles - classical, pop, jazz, Disney, and others.
Our recommendation is to start with Faber’s ‘Adult Piano Adventures Level 1’. It is a perfect introduction to the instrument for those students who have never played the piano before. The exercises and pieces are both fun and instructive, gradually introducing aspects of hand technique, note reading, and music theory.

The perfect evening for practicing Chopin 🎶🌹
Did you know that Chopin was deeply influenced by opera? Specifically, by bel canto singing - a vocal style of 18th and 19th century Italian opera characterised by the use of long, sustained lines and intricate vocal ornamentation. Composers like Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti.
The influence of this style is prominent particularly in the long melodic lines of Chopin’s Nocturnes and his earlier Ballades. Can you guess the piece above? 💡

‘Break-off' is unique in that it is not a lecture recital. The pianist's own words are spoken over playing - woven through. The words offer an explanation to the music, but are chiefly more an alternative creative response to the selection of Nocturnes by Frederic Chopin and Gillian Ayres' 'Break-off' paintings. What results is descriptive poetry, rather than musical analysis.
Join us on Friday, 27 October, for an evening featuring pianist Kirsty Chaplin and her creative response to the artworks of Gillian Ayres.
The performance starts at 8pm, doors open at 7:45pm. Address is 5th Floor, 39 Ludgate Hill, London EC4M 7JN.
Tickets (£15) are purchased on Eventbrite via the link in bio.
