๐ŸŒธ Art & Design Club Creations ๐ŸŒธ

We had a lovely time in Art & Design Club this week creating beautiful flower gardens from clay, all inspired by and linked to our Natural Forms project this term. ๐ŸŒผ

The children have been learning the fundamentals of slab rolling, cross-hatching, and how to use slurry to securely join clay pieces together. Itโ€™s been wonderful to see their creativity flourish while developing new clay-building skills.

Such imaginative and thoughtful work from everyone โ€“ well done! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ“ธโœ‚๏ธ KS2 Photography Club โ€“ Cut, Create, Transform! โœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿ“ธ

Our young photographers explored collage techniques inspired by artists like David Hockney โ€” transforming a single photograph by cutting it up and rearranging it in their own unique way.

There was no right or wrong way, just creativity and experimentation.

๐Ÿ‘€ Look closely
โœ‚๏ธ Cut boldly (big, small, careful or rough!)
๐Ÿ”„ Rearrange โ€” flip it, overlap it, change the focus
๐Ÿ–‡๏ธ Stick when composition looks great

The results are imaginative, thoughtful and completely individual. I love how each child reimagined their image!

Over the past 4 weeks in our Natural Forms project, weโ€™ve been building observational drawing skills through flowers ๐ŸŒธ

We started by making our own viewfinders to zoom in on tiny sections โ€” really training our eyes to see shape and detail. Next, we used light boxes to accurately record outlines and understand proportion.

Our final challenge? Drawing from direct observation ๐ŸŒฟ Translating a 3D flower into a 2D image and capturing shadow and tone.

The progress has been incredible. From grid studies to final pieces in pencil, oil pastel, fine liner and watercolour, the children have shown such confidence and creativity โœจ

Creating a World Book Day mermaid costume with my student was such a rewarding experience! ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธโœจ

We explored working with multiple layers of tulle and net fabric to build a beautifully full skirt, practised gathering techniques for a decorative finish, and also carefully sewing stretch fabrics on the sewing machine. So proud of the focus, patience and creativity shown throughout โ€” amazing progress! ๐Ÿงต

๐ŸŽจโœจ Loads more fun at Art Textiles Club! The children have been hard at work bringing their ideas to life, translating sketches from paper onto fabric. ๐Ÿชก๐Ÿฆ Their appliquรฉ bird designs are already looking amazing, and the embroidery embellishments are adding such a fantastic, personal touch!

Iโ€™ve been a bit quiet on here for a while, but Iโ€™m hoping to be more consistent with posting this year โ€“ a small New Yearโ€™s resolution of mine.

This photo captures the children at Thomasโ€™s diving into the design process for their embroidery hoop wall hangings, inspired by Clare Youngs. Such a lovely start from everyone.

Looking forward to seeing these beauties on display in the coming weeks, they will form part of a community textile art installation.

Made with lots of love, care and patience by my girls . ๐Ÿฅฐ
