Tell me your GP (General Practitioner - medico di base) receptionist sounds like this too 😂

Based on a real story (not mine but I took inspiration from it). Be honest, who do you find the most annoying ? 😁

I asked you which dress I should wear… and then I decided to get the winning one tailor-made in Bangkok ✂️

I showed them the reference picture, chose the fabric and the shade — dusty rose, or *rosa antico* — had my measurements taken, went back for a fitting, asked for a few small alterations… and three days later, this was the final result.

Also, perfect excuse to teach you some proper clothing vocabulary:
tailor-made, off the rack, fabric, swatch, fitting, alterations, hem… all words you actually hear when clothes are made or adjusted.

I bet you've never been taught how to talk about 💩 in English.
This is what happens the first time you come to Thailand by the way 😂

A vowel can change everything.

In Italian, we can usually “get away with it” a bit more.
In English… not so much.

pan /pæn/ ≠ pen /pen/
bin/bɪn/ ≠ bean/biːn/
cup /kʌp/ ≠ cap /kæp/
sheet /ʃiːt/ ≠ s**t /ʃɪt/

And yes, sometimes the misunderstanding is not a misunderstanding at all.

The problem isn’t your “accent”.
It’s that English has vowel sounds Italian doesn’t have, so your brain naturally tries to replace them with the closest Italian sound.

This is exactly what we work on in our pronunciation and phonetics courses for Italian speakers: learning to hear the difference first, then training your mouth to produce the sound clearly.

Poi riascolti il voice message e senti: *“I called you 10 times already, WHAT WERE YOU DOING, EH!?!”* 😭

La verità? Succede a tutti.

Quando parliamo inglese, spesso **pensiamo** di suonare in un certo modo… ma poi, riascoltandoci, ci accorgiamo che:

🎧 le parole non escono come volevamo
🎧 l’intonazione è molto italiana
🎧 le frasi sembrano tradotte parola per parola
🎧 articoli, weak forms e suoni “piccoli” non vengono indeboliti come dovrebbero.

Ed è proprio qui che entra in gioco lo studio della fonetica.

Non si tratta di “cancellare” il tuo accento.
Si tratta di imparare a parlare in modo più chiaro, naturale e sicuro in un’altra lingua— con gli strumenti giusti e i suoni che le appartengono.
