Happy Thursday πŸ–€

This is a message to all my colleagues, it’s almost Christmas so let’s circle back in the new year 🀣 jokeeesss!

Christmas in the corporate world is one of my favourite times of the year πŸ™ŒπŸΎ there’s usually Christmas parties, the office is all decorated and everyone is in a good mood!

I’m looking forward to winding down for the Christmas break and eating all the Christmas food and resting before starting 2023 strong πŸ’ͺ🏾

When are you logging off for Christmas? Let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

I get a lot of people asking me, β€œHosanna, I want to learn to code, what laptop should I use?”

The answer is always the laptop you have.

Having a fancy, expensive laptop is great and comes with lots of benefits but it isn’t a necessity when you are getting started!

Do not rush out to buy yourself a MacBook just because you see loads of programmers with one on the internet, start with what you have and grow from there πŸ™ŒπŸΎ I think I did my degree with a Β£250 ASUS laptop and still finished with a First Class πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰

Instead focus on these things:

- Am I using the right learning resources?
- Do I have the right learning schedule?
- Do I understand my learning style and how it can help me improve my learning?

These things are KEY to your success 🌟

Where are you with your coding journey? Let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Life lately ☁️

I’ve been taking some time off to recharge and live life and I could not be happier!

Taking time off from work and enjoying your life is a right, not an option and you’ll be stronger for it πŸ’•

I took two weeks off work and I didn’t not want to come back 😭😭 but I returned to hundreds of emails and no I’m ready to fly out again!

Getting to travel is the only reason I work TBHHH and I’m grateful for everything I’ve been able to gain from my career!

β€œHow do I get started with tech?”

This is a question which I get very often but a question which I love and a question which I have answered many times and will continue to to help as many people as possible!

Not too long ago, I answered this exact question to an audience of students who were interested in working in the tech industry and specifically at Microsoft πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

These are the points that I covered with them which you may find useful for answering the question how to get started with tech:

1. Identify your niche/interest in tech - will it be software development, cloud computing or even design?
2. Start building the correct skills - do you need to code or do you need just need the knowledge?
3. Choose your learning resources - there are lots of resources out there some are free and some are paid, some are structured while some are independent learning - pick what works for you.
4. Find practical experience - from personal projects to volunteering or an internship - work experience will take you a long way!

Once you’ve done all of that - go ahead and apply! It won’t be simple or easy but it’s worth a try!

Which one of these steps are you on? Let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Back to life 🀍

Things are slowly returning back to some normality since the pandemic and I have just had my first offsite in 3 years!!

For my non corporate girls, an offsite is when a company invites all is employees to leave the office and their normal work day to go to an offsite location to team build and hear about the business and strategy 🌟

We were lucky enough for ours to be an overnight one so we got to stay at a lovely hotel where we also had dinner and a dance πŸ’ƒπŸΏ

I love things like this as you get bond with your team while learning how to be better at your job - I’m looking forward to the next one!

Have you been to an offsite before? Let mw know in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

4 years since I started my career in tech sales at Microsoft, I come straight from university into a job!

I’ve been thinking about what I would do again if I had to re-start from scratch with zero knowledge and I thought I’d share with you guys ☺️

Remember that everyone is different and will do things differently, some people may learn a new technology and in 6 months be building and working, while others will need the structure of a degree or course!

Try to take tips from people in the industry but then build your own plan πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

🀣 you guys know I had to jump on this trend!

I relate to this little miss very much 🀍

Working because you have expensive taste πŸ’…πŸΎ we stan money motivated queen!

P.s this is a lighthearted joke, you have to have some interest in the industry to survive in it and some in tech will pay well while others won’t - do your research!

July so far 🫢🏾

July is the new financial year at work and if you work in the sales part of the business, this is a time of celebration πŸŽ‰

There is an number of events put on by the company to celebrate the success of the previous year and to give out awards 😌

While we celebrate, we also still work as a job is a job πŸ˜‚ July is the time to start planning the new year, how you will drive your number and achieve targets! This can be stressful but also exciting too.

Is July a busy time for you at work? Let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸΎ
