River said he was ecstatic to learn he had hit all of his GCSE targets.

He said: “I did a lot of guided revision every morning. A lot of it was independent, just sitting down with a book, covering it, and then writing up what I remembered.”

A Cultural Exchange to Remember 🇨🇳🇬🇧

We were delighted to welcome a group of 32 students from China to Waterside Academy for a fantastic cultural exchange experience.

During their visit, our students had the opportunity to share English culture and life in London, while learning about Chinese culture and traditions from our visitors. The programme gave students the chance to explore, learn together, make new friendships and experience school life at Waterside.During their visit, the students took part in a wide range of exciting activities across the school, including Science experiments, Design & Technology projects, Art activities and other creative and practical lessons.

It was wonderful to see students from different backgrounds connecting, communicating and learning from one another. We hope the friendships and memories created during their visit will last for many years to come.

A huge thank you to all the students and staff who helped make the visit such a memorable and enjoyable experience!

🎭 Creativity, confidence and community

There’s plenty happening beyond the classroom at Waterside, with students embracing opportunities to express themselves, build friendships and support their wellbeing.

🎬 On stage: Our students have been developing their performance skills in some wonderfully creative ways. Year 7 have explored silent movie techniques, using gesture and facial expression to tell their stories, while Year 8 have created original characters inspired by comedy. Year 9 have also brought An Inspector Calls to life, with Year 10 and Year 11 students tackling challenging monologues and scenes from Prima Facie and No Exit.

☕ Supporting wellbeing: Families also had the opportunity to attend a coffee morning with the Mental Health Support Team, learning more about the support available and how school and specialist services work together to support students’ emotional wellbeing.

And with a wide range of lunchtime clubs, from computing and band practice to wellbeing activities, there really is something for everyone.
It’s fantastic to see our students discovering their talents, finding their voice and making the most of everything school life has to offer. 🌟

Opening doors to future possibilities.
This term, our Year 10 students enjoyed an inspiring visit to the University of Cambridge, giving them a first-hand insight into university life, its rich history and the exciting opportunities that higher education can offer.

From exploring the historic city and touring Clare College to attending lectures and meeting current undergraduates, the visit encouraged our students to think ambitiously about their futures. Hearing from students with similar backgrounds made the experience even more meaningful, showing that with determination and hard work, their aspirations are within reach.

We're incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and ambition our students showed throughout the visit and look forward to seeing where their journeys take them.

We also celebrated the creativity of our talented GCSE Art students at Waterside Academy's first GCSE Art Exhibition. Their impressive work showcased a wide range of artistic techniques and reflected the dedication, imagination and skill they have developed throughout the year.

Helping our students find their voice, aim high and thrive 🌟
It’s been a busy and rewarding term at Waterside Academy.

From our Student Council giving young people a real voice in school life, to Year 9 learning how to stay safe on the roads and students exploring Spanish culture at the British Council, there have been plenty of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom.

Our Year 10 students also looked ahead to life after Waterside with a visit to New City College, gaining a valuable insight into further education and future pathways – alongside a taster basketball session.

Proud of our students for embracing every opportunity, building confidence and preparing for their next steps.

Inspiring ambition and supporting wellbeing at Waterside Academy

At Waterside Academy, we're committed to helping every student realise their potential – both inside and outside the classroom.

This term, our Year 9 students visited University College London's Stratford campus, where they explored university life, discovered future career opportunities and met current students whose experiences inspired them to think confidently about their own ambitions. As one student shared, "She really inspired me." Moments like these help young people see that their aspirations are within reach.

Alongside preparing for exams, we're also supporting students' wellbeing through our stress-busting gym sessions. Led by Mr Ahmed, these sessions encourage students to stay active, build resilience and manage exam pressures, recognising the positive impact physical activity has on both mental wellbeing and academic success.

We're incredibly proud of the opportunities our students embrace and the dedication of the staff who help them thrive every step of the way.

🇪🇸 Year 7 students become the teachers!

Our Year 7 transition team swapped the classroom for the front of it, delivering Spanish lessons to pupils at Sebright Primary School.

After weeks of preparation, our students confidently taught vocabulary, supported younger learners and discovered what it's like to be a teacher. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership, communication and confidence while helping primary pupils prepare for secondary school.

We're incredibly proud of the maturity, enthusiasm and kindness they showed throughout the experience. Well done, everyone!
