Music making with Music Makers – musicianship for youngest musicians!

The Latymer Saturday Music Centre CIC provides popular classes for the youngest musicians, starting from three years old!

The aim of these sessions is to provide opportunities for children to develop musicianship through a variety of musical games and activities including singing, playing classroom percussion instruments and listening.

As the children progress to having formal instrumental tuition, the benefits of having attended the musicianship classes (in terms of ‘sharpening up’ their ears, developing music reading skills and co-ordination) are invaluable.

The classes are offered for children in the following age groups:

10:15-10:55 Music Makers 1 (Reception and Year One)

11:00-11:40 Early Ears (Nursery)

11:45-12:25 Music Makers 2 (Year 2 – compulsory for children in Year 2 studying an instrument with us)

We are starting back on Saturday 12th September.

We also have a limited availability in one to one lessons in piano, recorder/flute, saxophone/clarinet (1 place only), trumpet/trombone (1 place only), guitar (1 place only) and music theory. We also have two subsidised places available for bassoon/mini bassoon.

The concert on Saturday 13th December will feature our Junior & Senior String Ensembles, plus our Wind Ensemble, and soloists.

Our ABRSM exam session is on Monday 15th December. We wish all the candidates well!

Congratulations!

We would like to congratulate one of our students, Erin Su Dennis (pictured), supported by her teacher Mrs Raissa Harvey, on successfully auditioning for the highly prestigious London Schools Symphony Orchestra. The beginning of the Summer Term marked our 31st Anniversary, and we finished the term with a highly successful ABRSM exam session and two concerts.

We introduced a small scale concert for our youngest musicians to perform in, during one of our popular Music Makers classes. The Year 2 class performed as a group, and the concert included some solos and duets from students in years two and three. It was the first time that many of these young musicians had played in front of an audience, and that audience could not have been more appreciative!

A larger scale concert took place later that (very hot!) afternoon, involving our Junior & Senior String Ensembles. Honourable mentions to our Guitar and Wind Ensembles for memorable performances, and commendations to students, teachers and audience.

Our ABRSM session concluded on Tuesday 15th July, and once again provided us with 100% pass rate, and a high proportion of merits and distinctions.

Timetabling is well underway for the autumn – many thanks to all the parents who have sent us information about their schedules. We are waiting for confirmation from the last few of our Music Makers going into Year 2 in September to choose their instruments. Guitar, drums and voice timetables are almost completely full, and there is limited availability for violin and piano. All bookings are supplied of a first come, first served basis!

We were lucky enough to attend Enfield Chamber Orchestra's performance of Mozart's Flute and Harp Concerto on Saturday, featuring Maisy - one of our current pupils - and Khyati - one of our former pupils.

Both soloists are members of Enfield Youth Symphony Orchestra, which enjoys strong links with Enfield Chamber Orchestra.

It was hard to believe that the soloists are only 17 and 18, such was their maturity and poise. Congratulations to both of you - we're all very proud!

We had our second concert of the term on Saturday, which included the Guitar Ensemble as well as the Recorder Ensemble and several soloists. It was lovely for the parents to have an opportunity to hear the progress the students have made - all that practice really is worth it! One more Saturday of lessons, and then we are all going to have a well-deserved break.
