The Latymer Saturday Music Centre

Founded in 1994, The Latymer Saturday Music Centre is an independent Music Centre

Operating as usual

Over the last few weeks we have been handing out the certificates from last term's ABRSM exams. We're very proud of all our students, but especially those that get to Grade 8 - and a distinction at Grade 8 is a real achievement!

Well done.

Music is for everyone.

Put them in a music ensemble.

We are delighted to welcome two new members of staff.

Edward Wing is our new piano teacher - also a band musician and former archaeologist!

Francis Macura is our new brass teacher, also offering aural training and GCSE/A-level Music support.

Do get in touch if you would like lessons in any of the above.

Looking for a last-minute Christmas present? Why not book some instrumental lessons? Or join one of our Early Ears or Music Makers classes? We have a team of 19 very experienced teachers offering lessons in a wide range of instruments, and the group classes for children from Nursery to Year 2 are a great introduction to music making and great fun too. We look forward to hearing from you!

Research indicates that singing releases endorphins, sorotonin and dopamine - these are all chemicals that make you feel good!

We are so lucky to have two fantastic singing teachers at out thriving Saturday school - why not sign up for some lessons?

Our Year 1 Music Makers had a special treat on Saturday - the Recorder Ensemble arrived, complete with Santa hats, and gave a little concert, finishing with Silent Night. Everyone loved it!

Ooh this looks exciting!

We're busy busy busy until the end of term! As well as our ABRSM exam session, we have two concerts at which we hope to hear all six of our ensembles as well as the Music Makers and some of our fabulous soloists too.

Just a quick reminder that we are closed for both Saturdays of half term. Wishing everyone a relaxing and enjoyable half term, and see you on 4th November.

It's nearly half term! One more Saturday of lessons, and then we're all looking forward to a relaxing two weeks off.

There are lots of reasons why singing is good for you, but one of them is that it makes you feel better! We have two singing teachers at The Latymer Saturday Music Centre, as well as including lots of singing in our Early Ears and Music Maker classes - why not find out more? Here's our website - we hope to see you soon!

Lovely to see that one of our teachers, Alex, is taking part in the Bloomsbury Festival. Do come along and support him!

One of the many certificates that we are handing out this morning - a distinction for Grade 8 flute is a fantastic achievement - well done!

Couldn’t agree more! We have six ensembles on a Saturday morning, all free for our students - playing with others is where the fun really starts!

What a great day we had yesterday! As well as our new teachers, we welcomed many new pupils too. Everyone seems happy with their timetable, and we're looking forward to sharing the joy of music making for the forthcoming term. We're so lucky that we get to do what we love.

We're looking forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow, after the long summer break. Our doors open at 8.00 and we have a full morning of instrumental lessons, ensembles and musicianship.

All timetables have been sent out - if you haven't received yours, please get in touch as soon as possible.

See you tomorrow!

We have another new teacher to add to our thriving music centre - we are delighted to welcome Daria Phillips to the team.

Daria began lessons on the mini-bassoon at the age of 7 as part of a council run project. She progressed through the various music ensembles within her borough before joining the music course at Junior Guildhall where she held the Bassoon Scholarship and, in her final year, received the Woodwind Prize. Daria has been invited to play with Chineke! Orchestra, an initiative that aims to promote diversity in classical music-making, on numerous concert tours and recordings. She was a Junior Artist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (2016-17) mentored by the principal bassoonist, Jonathan Davies. Daria studied in The Hague with Gretha Tuls and at Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she won the Bassoon Prize. Daria enjoys encouraging young musicians to explore the art form and regularly works as a teacher and music mentor with various organisations.

Our bassoon pupils are looking forward to meeting Daria on Saturday!

We now have two singing teachers, and are looking forward to hearing some of the pupils at our next concerts. If you would like singing lessons, please get in touch on 07948 167396 or send us an email on [email protected].

We have another new member of staff starting with us next week!

Scottish singer Eleanor Kemp first studied Music with French at Glasgow University before moving to London to study at Trinity Laban where she completed her masters in vocal performance. She is a freelance opera singer with credits including Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Nursing Sister, Mistress of the Novices and the Abbess (Suor Angelica), Sheperdess (Venus and Adonis) and Nada (Svadba). Eleanor also performs song and opera recitals regularly with her duo partner.

Eleanor is a passionate teacher working with students on singing, theory and languages. She is also experienced in creating group music experiences through her work with Colourstrings and Paragon. As an experienced choral singer, Eleanor now also enjoys leading choirs and sharing the gift of ensemble singing. She loves helping students achieve their musical goals, gain confidence and open new doors in their development through music. She sees students at Trinity Laban as well as privately, and is delighted to start working at the Latymer Saturday Music Centre.

Welcome Eleanor!

Does your child enjoy music? Are you looking for an exciting way of teaching your child about pitch and rhythm? Come along to us on Saturday mornings! We still have vacancies in our Early Ears and Music Makers classes. These are a great introduction to music, with singing, rhythm games, games with instruments and other listening activities. Call us on 07948 167396, send an email to [email protected] or apply here

Not too long now before we start lessons again. Everybody should have had their timetable by now - if you haven't received yours, or if you have any queries, please contact us straight away. There are still vacancies for lessons on some instruments and also in our Early Ears and Music Makers classes. In the meantime, have a fabulous Bank Holiday.
