5/6L’s Day of Sport - We really enjoyed Day of Sport in 5/6L last week. We started the day by learning some Cheerleading moves and jumps, dancing along to the World Cup song. We then practised our Netball skills, completing shooting competitions in teams and learning the accurate footwork and passes. After that, we played some golf, working on putting and chipping skills, including a game of ‘Billiards’ and target practice.Later on in the day, we tested out our football dribbling and shooting skills in the sunny park. To end the day, we had a lot of fun learning the sport, ‘Pickleball’ and a lot of the children showed real aptitude for the sport! It was a fantastic day together.

Reception celebrate the National Day of Reading - Reception had the most fantastic time during the National Day of Reading. We began our day with a book themed scavenger hunt. The children were given a set of clues to decode which led them to a special box of books from which they could choose two to take home and keep.We were then joined by Year 3 who came to share stories, before starting work on our story back drop. We focused on the book ‘The naughty bus’ and created our own version of the story. We decided to take the bus on a journey through the classroom and thought about all of the ‘naughty’ things it could do. The children had great fun describing what it would do in the painting area and even decided that it would remove their smiley faces and stars! They then created their own naughty bus puppets using card and lolly sticks.

Year 1 celebrate Reading Day - Last week, we dedicated a whole day to reading to celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026. The task for this day was to plan and then act out their own story, including making their own set! The children were encouraged to think of their own setting and then as a class choose one. They then wrote their own storyboards with a small group, whilst some children painted the backdrop. In the afternoon, the children were able to act out their stories to their class friends.

National Year of Reading Celebrations in 5/6L - This week we marked the National Year of Reading with an exciting, off-timetable day. To begin, we went on a book box hunt after receiving a mysterious book riddle to the classroom. It led us to a box filled with books, one of which the children were able to select and bring home to keep (kindly donated by the Children's Book Project). We then spent much of the day painting a backdrop on a plain bedsheet, which we used to later perform our own stories. The children worked in pairs or small groups to create their own storyboard or narrative and these were shared with the class in the afternoon. The children had lots of fun together and the atmosphere in the classroom was purposeful and enthusiastic. Many of the children contributed to the backdrop and did a great job.It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading in a unique way.
