Chairs on Strike! - We had a very surprising, exciting start to the day in Year 3 when we came in to discover our classroom chairs had gone on strike! They left a note to say that they were worried about the year ahead as previously children haven't looked after them very well…Year 3 were very concerned about the chairs and began to identify what they might be worried or unhappy about, and how we could respond to reassure them they will be taken care of this year. They wrote down promises they would make to ensure the furniture was well taken care of (although actually quite enjoyed sitting on the carpet with whiteboards to complete the task!).The children will be writing letters to the chairs tomorrow based on today's work, in order to convince them that they are a very sensible, respectful new class who will take care of them. We are confident that we will be able to persuade them to stay!

5/6K’s First Day Back - It was a great first day back at school in 5/6K! The children were all pleased to catch up with their friends and came into the classroom eager and ready to learn. We started the day by refamiliarising ourselves with some of the rules and routines as well as taking part in a ‘getting to know you’ game. In the afternoon, the children put their problem solving and teamwork skills to the test in an elastic band cup stacking challenge. Each group received six cups and some pieces of string attached to an elastic band. The groups had to work together to stack their cups in different formations, but were only allowed to touch the cups using the elastic band and string. I was great to see how well the children worked together to overcome this challenge.I am really looking forward to what I am sure will be a fantastic year!

First day in 3L! - We had a lovely first day in 3L, welcoming our newest cohort of Junior pupils. They arrived full of enthusiasm and curiosity and we quickly began to practise our new routines and get to know the classroom, as well as catch up with each other. We spent some time warming up our hands ready for writing with some ‘dough disco’ style activities, as well as thinking about the importance of a positive mindset for learning. The children also had the opportunity to choose their first reading book as a choice to ‘read for pleasure’ (any reading scheme books will come home tomorrow) and writing in our new reading records. The children also received a personalised bookmark to welcome them into their new class.I was really impressed by how quickly the children settled in and I am sure we are going to have a fabulous year together.

Looking Back at 2M’s Summer Term: Alice Holt Forest - 2M had a great time on the whole school trip to Alice Holt Forest! We learned about how creatures use camoflauge to keep themselves safe-- we hid different coloured ‘wooly worms’ for another group to find. We saw that the bright green and orange worms were found very quickly while the brown worms, which blended into the dead leaves on the ground, were very difficult to find. If you are a worm, or another creepy crawly, you want to blend into your surroundings to avoid hungry beaks! We also sketched out areas of the forest floor and examined different insects we found in the leaf litter on the ground. We really liked the shield bugs!

Looking Back at 2M’s Summer Term: Reading Day - 2M loved Reading Day! The project of the day started by each class agreeing on a story setting and then working together to paint a mural backdrop of it (Year 2 chose a flower-filled meadow). Then in groups, children created storyboards of their own unique story for the agreed upon setting, made stick puppets for the different characters and then performed their original stories to the rest of the class! Also, each child was able to bring home two brand new books of their choosing!

Looking Back at 2M’s Summer Term: Trip to the London Wetlands Centre - This was a wonderful trip that the children got so much out of!We saw the adorable pair of Asian Small-Clawed Otters being fed, made nests that would be fit for either robin eggs, goose eggs or swan eggs, saw many different types of birds, walked along a long wobbly bridge, and did the ‘Wild Walk’, a balance beam obstacle course through trees and tall grass. We had a fabulous time!
