Ethnic minorities are underrepresented in veterinary medicine and animal-related subjects

🐾😸Animal Aspirations at the London Vet Show 2025😸🐾

Animal Aspirations spent the day connecting with vets, students, and organisations across the veterinary profession, while building relationships that support our mission to increase ethnic diversity within animal-related careers!

We were fortunate enough to meet the previous presidents at Animal Aspirations, Noah (our Harper and Keele Animal Aspirations president) the BVEDS and Affinity Futures team! We’d like to extend our gratitude to everyone who took the time to speak with us, and we look forward to continuing these conversations and creating more opportunities for ethnic individuals in animal-related fields.💛🐾

Is your child interested in pursuing an animal-related career? There are multiple way to help nurture and promote these aspirations, and we have a few materials/opportunities we would love to share with you!

"So, you want to work with animals?" by J.M. Bedell is a book geared towards 8-12 year olds that discusses the many ways you can center a career around animals. It outlines the difficulties of working with animals while also explaining how gratifying the job can be! It is available to purchase on Amazon and other book vendors.

The VetaHumans podcast produced by veterinarians at Purdue Vet School in the US. Each episode has a different, interesting topic relating to animal health or the veterinary profession. It is also geared towards younger students and explores how vets can use their “superpowers” to make change in the world. Read more about the project here: https://vet.purdue.edu/vetahumanz/podcast/. The podcast is available to stream for free on Spotify, Google Podcast, and other podcast streaming sites.

Another great way to introduce your children to animals is to visit a working petting zoo or farm.
