My name is Daniel Morrissey and I'm a trainee clinical psychologist in my final year of training at University College London (UCL). As part of my training, I have designed a study that aims to improve our understanding of loneliness in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The COVID-19 pandemic has led to various social distancing measures across the world and I am interested in better understanding the role social media plays in the experience of loneliness during this time. This study aims to better understand the experience of loneliness in people with, and without, features of BPD during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study also aims to shed light onto the effect of social media use on loneliness. We hope that the findings will inform adaptations to clinical interventions that aim to improve the wellbeing of people with a diagnosis of BPD, particularly during periods of social distancing.
