Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Southgate

Monkey Puzzle Southgate invites you to our Charity Open Day on Saturday 7th September.

We will have lots of activities on show for children aged from 6 months up to 4 years old including Diddi Dance sessions, face painting, tombola and lots of messy play!
This fun filled day will act as a charity raiser in order help support "The Smallest Things" premature baby charity!

We will also be conducting nursery tours on the day with special joining offers!

🍌🍓DIY Fruit Match 🍐🍊

The babies have enjoyed learning about different fruits as a extension of their core book "the very hungry caterpillar" They took part in completing fruit and vegetable puzzles as well as a DIY fruit match which they all thoroughly enjoyed 🍊

🍸Mocktail Making 🍹

Our preschool class have been making colourful mocktails using coloured sand crazy foam and adding their own little toppings to their mocktails ❤️

✂️Scissor Skills ✂️

Our preschoolers have been working hard to develop their scissor skills. They have been cutting different shapes and pictures from magazines and making their own collages ❤️

🤸🚴‍♀️Toddler Olympics 🏆🥇

Our 2024 Paris Olympic finalists took part in competing to win the over all medal for each athletic competition they participated in: We had;

The ‘3m Sprint’ Our little runners are not quite ready for the 100m sprint but they had a blast competing in the 3m sprint to the finish line!

The ‘Long Jump’ The adventurers loved participating in the long jump, using their gross motor skills to run and jump leaving their footprints into the sand!

The ‘Hurdle race’ The adventurers jumped over the hurdles effortlessly to win their gold medal.

’Gymnastics’ The adventurers took part in competing for the gold medal through performing their most wonderful gymnastic moves. They balanced and they somersaulted across the cushioned podium.

🖌Balloon Painting 🎈🎈

Our babies have been busy developing their fine and gross motor skills. We used balloons stuck under a table to allow the babies to stretch up pain the balloons as well as be able to stand at the table to also paint. Well done Explorers💚

🙋‍♀️We're going on a bear hunt 🐻

We recreated the story and the children got to go on a sensory walk across all the different scenes within the book. They loved exploring the different textures on their feet and repeating phrases from the story.

🛩MPS Airline ✈️

Our Toddlers took part in a fun airport roleplay activity where they pretended to fly on an aeroplane. They were given tickets and boarding passes and dressed up, taking it in turns to fly the plane. They also listened to aeroplane sounds and watched a video of an air steward explaining the safety rules. We also looked at maps and chose which destination to fly to✈️ 🎫

💚A day with Emergency Service Heroes ❤

In light of everything that has been happening over the last week we have spent time to talk to the children all about the Emergency Services and the amazing work they do to protect and look after the community 💜 From these conversations our children thought it would be nice to treat them and make a card and some cakes to deliver.

The children across the nursery spent time baking and making cards and we had a wonderful visit from our local neighbourhood police, as well as took the children on a visit to the fire station as well as the ambulance station to deliver these treats and say A HUGE THANK YOU ❤

🌞Mini Fire Safety Training 🧑‍🚒

Our toddlers have been learning all about the importance of fire safety.
They took a hands on approach in practicing how to extinguish fires using water, whilst they learnt about the role of the fire-fighter and the importance their role entails regarding fires and fire safety. During a group discussion about fire safety the toddlers learnt about different signs to look out for regarding fire safety such as ‘fire door, keep shut’, ‘fire action’ and ‘fire exit’ they then went on a tour around the building and looked out for these signs and were able to recall what the signs meant and how important they are.

☘️🌼Exploring Nature 🌺🌿

Our babies have had fun exploring nature. They took part in a nature themed tea party as well as developed their fine and gross motor skills by using rolling pins to bang and roll to make flower prints.

Our preschool children have shown a huge interest in construction recently so together we made a construction site. They have been learning about how to keep safe on a construction site, different roles you may have and how to make cement.

The children have been working as a team to decide what to build and worked together to design their buildings and construct them.

💚Sticky Wall 💛

Our babies have been busy developing their fine and gross motor skills with a sticky wall activity. They stretched up to pull the tape off the walls as well as used the cars to follow the lines of tape.

🦮🐈‍Monkey Puzzle Veterinary 🩺🐱

Our Toddlers enjoyed role-playing being mini veterinarians. They used their skills to help to look after the animals. They groomed the animals by brushing their fur and pretending to cut their nails. They also took part in looking after sick and injured animals by checking their heart rates, weighing them on the scales, feeding them food and milk, bandaging their wounds and giving them medicine to help them feel better. The toddlers were able to confidently name the animals at the veterinary surgery and ensured they were feeling much better before going back home to their owners 🩺💛

Happy Fathers Day 🩵 We had a super day celebrating all special daddy’s and special male role models. The children prepared grazing tables full
Of delicious snacks and fruits. We had many fun activities out for the children as well as a very fun and competitive sports day that everyone left a winner🏅😂

🩺Mini First Aiders 🩹

To end our child safety week our Toddlers took part in a fantastic first aid course. The team used a hands on approach and the children were able participate in all aspects of the first aid training. The adventurers learnt all about how and why to give CPR and how to put somebody into the recovery position. We spoke about different types of injuries and how to clean and dress wounds using bandages on each other, How to check for a temperature, and we explored Respiratory relief equipment such as a nebuliser, asthma pump, and oximeter. The children listened so intently and concentrated throughout.

The children took home a first aid certificate to show how hard they worked today 🥰

⚠️🚦Child Safety Awareness Week 👷⚠️

As part of this weeks topic learning all about child safety awareness the toddlers have been learning about road safety! The toddlers have been very intrigued in learning all about road safety, with lots of the toddlers showing great attention to detail when recalling what information they have learnt during practical activities.
The toddlers participated in a road safety circuit indoors in which they cycled around the road, they used their critical thinking skills to figure out what the traffic lights instructed them to do and they then cycled around the road once again. They put into use their knowledge of the zebra crossing and recalled that this was a safe place for them to cross!
As an extension from this activity some of the toddlers had the pleasure to go on a road safety walk in which they put into practice what they had learnt during their circuit activity. The adventurers were very confident in correctly telling their teachers what the traffic lights were instructing them to do and they shared their understanding on what to do at the pedestrian and zebra crossings.

❤️Superhero Investigators 🔍

As part of our focus observations some of our Pre-schoolers went on an investigation into the town to learn and understand about different print in the environment. They learnt about different shops and were able to recognise familiar signs and logos on their adventure. We spoke to the children about different occupations and allowed them the opportunities to step into places like Opticians and Barber shops to ask questions.

💧Water Filtration Experiment 💦
The Preschool loved learning about how we get clean water. They worked independently to create their own dirty water and then spoke about how they could not drink it. They then learnt filters are used to remove all of the toxic things in water that we cannot drink and how a filter can help create clean water again. They then focused really well to create their own filters with sand and coffee filters and added their dirty water to the filter. Pre-schoolers were amazed as their dirty water became clean again.

🍓National Strawberries and Cream Day🍓

In our toddler room the children used knives to cut the strawberries into halves and quarters learning the meanings of the mathematical language. When they cut their strawberries they learnt about the seeds inside the strawberry and the different parts of a strawberry. They learnt about how to use knives safely and of course enjoyed adding cream to the strawberries and having a taste!

Our babies thoroughly enjoy role play and in particular with the babies. We set up a mini day care unit where the babies had the chance to bath, change, cook and feed the babies.

🎋🌿Exploring with Herbs 🌿☘️

Our toddlers enjoyed a hands on approach to learning this afternoon as they took part in learning all about herbs. They enjoyed using their sense of smell to smell the beautiful aromas of the parsley, mint and dill. Some of them explaining that the mint particularly smelt sweet. They then used the hammers to create marks using the herbs, learning all about chloroplast. We also developed our fine motor skills by usinig the scissors to cut the herbs.

Our toddlers had a busy morning building and constructing with the foam blocks and crazy foam. Dressing up and working together to build houses and towers. They also looked at blue prints of buildings and designed their own on the chalk board 🧱👷🏼‍♂️

Today we celebrated Oral Health Day 🦷 Did you know that as an early years provider our EYFS statutory framework states that all providers must promote good Oral Health for all children who attend the setting.

We promote Oral Health everyday from babies right through to our pre-schoolers and it is so important because it helps babies and children to:

🦷Help them to bite and chew
🦷Feel confident in their smile
🦷Help grow adult teeth

🌷Happy Mothers Day ❤

Today we hosted a Mothers day event for all our wonderful Mummy's to come and take part in making flower arrangements with their children.

It was a wonderful day and so much fun was had by all children, parents and staff.

🎨Colour Mixing 🎨

Today preschool have been busy learning all about primary and secondary colours.

They used water and food colouring to mix colours together making colours Purple, Orange and Green.

The children loved watching the colours change and communicating with their peers about how they made the different colours. They also decided together to mix all the colours together and agreed that it made the colour brown.
