Recently a group of Year 9 students went on a nature expedition to Walthamstow Wetlands. Walthamstow Wetlands is one of the largest urban wetland nature reserves in Europe, containing 10 working reservoirs that supply drinking water to over 3.5 million people in London. Despite being a functioning industrial site, it also supports a huge variety of plant and animal life.

The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to explore how biodiversity and human needs can successfully coexist. During the trip, students participated in a birdwatching and a botanical bingo challenge. Inspired by famous artists, they then had the chance to sketch the species they had observed.

A huge well done to the Year 11 BTEC Sport class for their outstanding results. 100% of students achieved grades 5–9 overall, with over 70% of the cohort securing a distinction in their Unit 3 coursework.

Special congratulations to Sienna Hutchinson (11 Brontë), who achieved an exceptional 100% across all three units of the course.

We would like to shine a light on our recent assemblies which highlighted the power of student voice and speaking with confidence and purpose. Mr MacBrayne encouraged students to recognise the impact of their words within the school community and beyond. Students also heard from Year 10 participants in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge, whose confident speeches will inspire many to develop their own communication skills.

Last month, a group of Year 7 students had a chance to take part in an exciting art heritage project, which was led by the Worshipful Company of Grocers.

The project looked at the life of Annabell Furner, the earliest recorded female grocer, and medieval London.

The exhibition included a guided tour led by the Grocers’ Historian, giving students a fascinating insight into the history of the Grocers’ Company and its connections with Mossbourne.

In March, we were proud to host the Hackney Regional Final of the Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Challenge, England’s largest public speaking programme.

Students from across the borough impressed everyone with their oracy skills and confidence!

Congratulations to the winner, Marley Skrein, and all those who participated and took home awards.

Back in March, some of our students went on a history trip to Belgium.

Students visited Langemark German War Cemetery, Tyne Cot Cemetery and visited Sanctuary Wood Museum.

To end the trip, students went to Meinn Gate, to the Hall of Memory, where they placed poems, posters, and a poppy wreath to remember the soldiers.

Back in early March, a group of our Year 10 and 11 students visited Hackney Downs and took part in a rewarding project that was aimed at improving local green spaces.

Working together with a group called the Tree Musketeers, they took on the mission to plant, protect and germinate trees across Hackney.

During the visit, students learned about the vital role trees play in sustaining our environment and the way that trees improve our air quality.

They represented our academy in the best possible way, by working hard, showing enthusiasm, and showing great teamwork!

Members of the Combined Cadet Force from MCA and MVPA recently enjoyed a memorable visit to the Honourable Artillery Company, the oldest regiment in Britain. The visit included a formal two course lunch, which many students described as “delectable” and a highlight of the day.

Cadets were also given a guided tour of Armoury House, where they learned about its rich history and admired the impressive artwork and architecture. The group visited the Medal Room, home to decorations awarded to regimental members, including the Victoria Cross - the highest and most prestigious military honour. The experience offered students a valuable insight into British military heritage in a truly historic setting.
