Here are a few snaps from our Sports Day. We all had an amazing time and the children competed in each event fantastically. It was lovely to see so many of you there to cheer the children on and celebrate their successes. Thank you to the PTFA for supplying us with a tasty ice lolly at the end! Well done to Ash for scoring the most points as a group. Everyone should be very proud of themselves for taking part.

In true Forest School style, we opened up the horizons of this tool session, to allow each student to follow their own interests while working with tools.
Some sawed thicker pieces of wood to make model flamingoes or their initials. Others used loppers to acquire head-pieces for their model animals. Many used the hammers to make Hapa Zome (leaf dying) decorations, some of which turned into bandanas, some flags.
I wish those leaving Loders this year all the best for the future, and a long career of exploring the great outdoors.

The fire triangle – fuel, oxygen and heat – the ingredients we can combine and manipulate in order to start a sustainable fire. We may need to change the ratios. Is there too much of one? Not enough of another?

Cogden lit multiple successful fires during this session.

It’s hot!
On what turned out to be the hottest June day ever recorded, beating the previous record of 1976, students used a sequence of tools to make wooden animals – deer, dogs, alligators. While the class was familiar with loppers and hand drills, for many it was their first time using a bow saw, and for many that was a very successful process. We will finish off the creatures over the coming weeks.

Being able to swim is not enough. Make sure your child knows the risks around open water.

Here’s the reality:

❗You can’t see what’s under the water. Rocks, drops, currents - it’s not worth guessing.
🏊Cold water hits HARD. Even strong swimmers can panic and lose control.
💨Inflatables are not safe in open water. One gust of wind and you’re gone - fast.
👬Pressure isn't friendship. Real mates don’t push you into danger.
