🦋Goodbye Butterflies 🦋

Today we said a very special goodbye to the final Butterfly children as they left nursery and took their first steps towards their next big adventure — starting school! 🎒✨

It feels like only yesterday they started their Nursery journey and now they are ready to spread their wings and begin this exciting new chapter.

Be brave, be kind, be curious and always remember how special you are. ⭐

We are all very excited for the solar eclipse tonight!

To get ready for the special event, we have been making projectors, ready to watch the solar eclipse when we get home!

First the children chose a box then cut out a piece of paper to place inside, along the bottom. Next, an adult cut out two holes on the top. Then the box needed to be taped back together. Carefully, foil was tapped over one of the holes and a pen was used to pierce a small hole. Once the projector was ready to use, the children tested it out then decorated it.

This week, the Ladybirds have delighted in exploring a range of light resources in the sensory dark tent.

Using the light blocks, they led their own play, building towers and changing and naming the colours with support. They delighted in repeatedly exploring the switch to turn them off and on!

With the addition of a light projector, we have observed our shadows, testing cause and effect as the light was covered.

Our ladybird friends have engaged in some wonderful sensory play this morning in the garden.
The two trays of gloop were fascinating for our little ones, using the metal resources to scoop up the mixture. Some children liked using their hands, feeling the different textures. Sometimes it was crumbly and other times it was like liquid!
One of our ladybirds said “stuck” as the potato masher was fully immersed in the gloop!
This is an easy fun activity to create at home using cornflour and water. Discover it’s weird consistency, I think you will have as much fun as the children!

This week we have celebrated our amazing children who are leaving us to start their school adventure.
The sun shone and the garden looked fabulous as we welcomed each child’s family to mark this very special event.

Today the Butterfly children and some of the Caterpillar children had a very special visit from Louise and Emily, from Fritton Owls. They introduced us to Winston, the Little Owl and Fluke, the Barn Owl.

Did you know that owls cannot move their eyes? Owls have binocular vision and they can turn their heads round 270 degrees! All of the children involved delighted in listening to Louise and having their photograph taken beside the owls.

What a lovely experience! Thank you Fritton Owls for coming to visit us. ☺️

To mark the end of term, the Butterfly children have delighted in a special barbecue celebration. Demonstrating excellent co-ordination skills, the children helped to cut and butter their rolls, chop the salad sticks and watched as the sausages sizzled on the barbecues supervised by Kara! The children served up their own selection of hot dogs and salad, before enjoying it with some music in the garden. Ice cream and strawberries was the perfect pudding to cool down!

Baking is always a popular opportunity in the Butterfly room and today’s recipe was ‘Rainbow scones’.

The inspiration came from the ‘Early Year’s Festival of Professional Development’ that our Senior team attended earlier in the term. Using a range of skills to cut, grate, pour, measure and mix to create the perfect scone. The Butterflies were curious to add the ‘rainbow’ vegetables (peppers, courgette and carrots) to the mixture and delighted in trying them at afternoon snack- they done really well trying the scones with the savoury twist!

I wonder if you will try making your own ‘Rainbow’ scones at home! ☺️

It has been a day of “Mud Glorious Mud” as we have fully embraced International Mud Day! The Caterpillars and Butterflies have enjoyed emptying and filling the pots and pans, making “chocolate ice cream” and “chocolate pies” as they delighted in observing mud and water mix together. Mud painting has also been on the agenda as the children have experimented painting on different surfaces. Even the dinosaurs welcomed a lovely mud bath!

Meanwhile, the Ladybirds have immersed themselves in the sensory experience as they climbed inside a tray, squelching and splashing throughout. They also showed curiosity as they demonstrated filling and emptying with the watering cans and watching the transformative actions on the mud.

This week the Butterflies have shown lots of interest and curiosity about ocean life. Initiated entirely by the children, they used available resources to create a beach, "shallow sea", "deep sea", and "ice". The Butterflies then worked together to sort through each marine life figure and determine whereabouts they belonged. They have also been asking lots of questions about lifeguards and lifeboats inspired by an RNLI catalogue, creating their own lifeboats from Lego. This has generated lots of conversation about how to keep ourselves safe near the sea. 🌊 🌊
