🎣 When the job description says “dam inspection” but the team hears “fishing trip”…

Zenith recently undertook works to partially drain a dam to allow inspection of the structure beneath the waterline.

Using large hoses, our team carefully lowered the water level before getting in with nets to safely relocate the fish that remained.

What followed:
🔹 Large-scale water removal from the base of the dam
🔹 Safe collection and relocation of fish to the upper section of the dam
🔹 Removal of the remaining water
🔹 Access to the exposed dam base for detailed inspection

All fish were safely returned to the upper section before the inspection works continued.

Not your average day at work, but another example of the varied and sometimes unexpected challenges our teams take on to safely access and inspect difficult structures.

🐟 No fish were harmed in the making of this project.

How do you replace a roof above a live working area without closing the space below?

That was the challenge faced by a client.

With the area below needing to remain operational, a conventional scaffold from ground level would have been costly, labour-intensive and disruptive. A crash deck was required to provide protection below while the roof sheets were removed and replaced.

Zenith developed a movable crash deck system, built from the existing overhead crane, allowing the deck to be repositioned as the roofing works progressed.

Key benefits:
🔹 Overhead crane utilised to move the crash deck along the building
🔹 Continuous protection maintained beneath the active work area
🔹 No requirement for a full scaffold structure from ground level
🔹 Reduced material and labour requirements
🔹 Minimized disruption to ongoing operations

This is another example of how Zenith uses innovative access and temporary works solutions to solve complex site challenges- improving safety while reducing cost and disruption for our clients.

Our team carried out detailed inspections and bolt testing, identifying key maintenance requirements including weather cap repairs, lightning protection reinstatement, bolt tightening, coating repairs, and remedial works to a tuned mass damper.

🏰 Stonework Inspection - Ravenscraig Castle

Zenith, part of Coriant Group, recently completed a detailed stonework survey at the historic Ravenscraig Castle, supporting Historic Environment Scotland (HES) in the preservation of this remarkable late-15th-century fortress.

Using specialist rope access techniques and an alloy access tower, our team carried out close visual and tactile inspections of the sandstone structure, identifying areas of cracking, deterioration, spalling, and other defects.

Scope of works:
🔹 Inspection of historic stonework and masonry
🔹 Tactile assessment of stone condition
🔹 Rope access and mobile tower access
🔹 Detailed reporting to the HES team
