Roll up, roll up. Come and join us during the Bank Holiday weekend for our annual festival of great fun, mayhem, silliness, and much more. Yes, it’s our world famous Bog Weekend, on Saturday, August 26th, and Sunday, August 27th. EVERYONE is welcome, you’ll be guaranteed laughs all the way, whether you watch or take part.
Along with all the activities in the world famous Bog - and don’t forget the children’s bog snorkelling too - there’s also the ever popular husband dragging, wife carrying, and ditch racing.
Come and join the fun. You’re all very welcome!

Wow! What a fantastic day at the Bog. And well done to all the wonderful youngsters who took part in the Children’s Bog Snorkelling, organised by the World Alternative Games team. You were all brilliant!
A massive thanks too, to those who took part in the wife carrying and husband dragging.
And huge appreciation to our wonderful volunteers, and also to the spectators, whose contribution made it a great atmosphere.
And a final thanks to Green Events and Berni they MC.

ADULTS ONLY

Women take their ‘REVENGE’ following the wife carrying!

This event involves the wife/partner running over a slippery surface to a makeshift bar where their husband’s /partner are drinking.

They then drag their man/partner along the ground before making him/her complete household duties, after which they return to the bar for a well earned drink!

Singleton, NSW, Australia was where this event first took place.

Great fun for all. All welcome!

Hey Ladies – Ever dream of being swept off your feet?

If you answered: “Hell yes!” then we have the sport for you!

The World Alternative Games (WAG) presents WIFE CARRYING like you’ve never seen it before!

Wife Carrying - the sport of Zeus and Athena - takes place at Llanwrtyd Wells on Sunday, August 28th.

It’s fantastic fun, and EVERYONE is welcome!


Wife carrying is a sport that originated in Finland a long time ago. As legend has it, a bandit named Rosvo Ronkainen led groups of men to steal women and other treats from neighbouring villages.

The damsels in distress normally wouldn’t go willingly so they had to be carried. In preparation for the raids, Mr Ronkainen would make his minions prove their worth; that is, display how fast they could run while carrying a woman.

The fastest carriers were allowed to join the gang and participate in the raids. From this tradition of plunder and pillage, we now have the sport of the Gods!

The WAG rules are simple:

The course is 255 meters long and the winning couple is the one who completes the course in the shortest amount of time. There will be heats and finals.

The prize for the fastest couple is the wife’s weight in beer!

Couples do not need to be married and same s*x couples are allowed.

There is no minimum weight for the “wife.” Little people and dwarf carry is encouraged!

Oh - and a bonus prize for the husband who completes the course with the heaviest wife!

Special prizes for fancy dress!

Cost: £10.00 per couple

We’re back!

Roll up, roll up, roll up … for a fantastic day of fun for all at Llanwrtyd Wells, home of the World Alternative Games, later this month.

Put Sunday, August 28th in the diary - it’s Bank Holiday weekend, and as always, it’s the annual Bog Snorkelling extravaganza in our fantastic town, organised as always by Green Events.

Around this world famous event, the WAG team is organising some fantastic events for you to join in.

We’ve the ever popular:

* children's bog snorkelling,
* Ditch race
* wife carrying
* husband dragging.

…and everyone is welcome to come join the fun.

There’s also a serious side to the day: we’re raising awareness for cystic fibrosis, and will have buckets for donations ready.

So what are you waiting for? Llanwrtyd Wells is waiting to offer you a warm welcome, and guaranteed fun.

The annual World Puddle Jumping Championships organised by Wicksteed Park will still go ahead this year- but this time as a virtual event!

Today should have been our ‘blue riband’ day. Bog snorkelling, ditch racing, wife carrying and husband dragging - always a fantastic climax to the World Alternative Games in Llanwrtyd Wells. Sadly not this year. But bring it on in 2021 - come join the fun, it’s always a top day, a top weekend, and a top event!

Today was supposed to be when we celebrate the opening of this year’s World Alternative Games, signalling two and a half weeks of more fantastic fun and activities in Llanwrtyd Wells.
We love welcoming people from all over the UK, but also from around the world too, to join in the mayhem and madness of our event. The Covid-19 crisis scuppered this years plans, and we hope you’ve all stayed safe and well over the past six months.
But we WILL be back next year, and plans are well underway to putting on another great event for you.
In the meantime, thank you to our friend and supporter Richard Gottfried for this fantastic blog. We look forward to seeing Richard again in 2021, we look forward to welcoming back friends we’ve made over the past eight years, and we look forward to making new friends too.
