Today was not spent playing at a wedding, but at a funeral.

It was a deeply moving and loving service a true celebration of a life well lived. Every piece of music had been chosen with great care, each carrying its own meaning and memory. Among them was the timeless Welsh melody, Dafydd y Garreg Wen, whose haunting beauty never fails to touch the heart.

There is something profoundly comforting about music at a funeral. It has a unique way of expressing emotions that words alone often cannot. As the familiar melodies filled the church, they brought moments of reflection, gratitude, and peace, honouring not only the person who had passed but also the love they had shared with family and friends throughout their life.

One of the most uplifting aspects of the service was the singing of the church choir. Their voices led the congregation with warmth and conviction, adding a sense of community and shared remembrance. The harp music, performed at other moments during the service, brought a different kind of comfort—gentle, reflective, and deeply expressive. Each played its own important role, together helping to create a service of dignity, hope, and love.

Funerals are never easy, yet they remind us of the importance of celebrating a life rather than simply mourning a loss. Music becomes a gift—offering comfort, stirring cherished memories, and helping us say goodbye with grace.

It was a privilege to play a small part in such a heartfelt service. Days like these remind me that music is far more than performance; it is a language of compassion, remembrance, and love. Today, the carefully chosen music, the church choir, and the harp all contributed in their own way to celebrating the life of someone deeply loved, and that is one of the greatest honours any musician can experience.

It was a pleasure to be part of Osian and Menna Evans wedding last Saturday 25th July 2026 at Talsarn Church. The ceremony was so elegant and beautiful, made even more special by the bride's wonderful choice of music. Canon in D accompanied the bridal entrance, Fields of Gold was played during the signing of the register, and Hallelujah provided the perfect recessional. Wishing Mr & Mrs Evans a lifetime of love and happiness together. 💕

It’s been a busy weekend teaching pupils, with a strong focus on developing solid technique and good practice habits. We began each lesson with scales and arpeggios to encourage proper warm-ups, paying close attention to posture, fi*****ng, and maintaining a steady tempo. Pupils working hard on achieving an even tone and consistent articulation, while also developing greater control of dynamics and phrasing. It has been encouraging to hear improvements in their playing, rhythmic accuracy, and overall musicality as confidence continues to grow.
