This week I'm going to be talking about all the wonderful authors and events we have at the Reading the Wild/ Darllen y Gwyllt Lit Fest, Llandovery on the 9th & 10th of May.
I'm really delighted to welcome Bethany Handley, poet and activist, her talk is called "Access for All: journeying through disability and nature." she will also be reading some of her poetry.

Bethany is an award-winning writer, poet and disability activist campaigning for access to nature for all. She was a keen hiker, climber and surfer before becoming paralysed, finding herself padlocked out of much of our countryside. Working at the intersection of climate justice and disabled people’s rights, Bethany believes that since we have created many of the barriers to accessing nature, we can also remove them.
She is an Ambassador for Country Living’s Access for All campaign, for Wales Coast Path and for Ramblers Cymru. Bethany was named one of the ten most influential disabled people working in politics, law and media in the UK, and one of the 100 most influential disabled individuals in the UK in the Shaw Trust’s Disability Power 100.

We're very fortunate to welcome Dr Rob Thomas, if you're interested in birds and how they're adapting to a changing world, make sure you get to this one.

Rob Thomas is a senior lecturer at Cardiff University, and is author of a recently published book on “The Storm-petrels”, which will be one of the central themes of the discussion at the Darllen y Gwyllt festival. He grew up in Brecon, where he became involved in wildlife ecology in general, and bird-ringing studies in particular. His research group at Cardiff University studies animal behaviour in changing environments, and storm-petrels are a central case-study – along with studies of woodland songbirds, and a wide diversity of other animals in different habitats around the world.

Our first event on Saturday morning 10.15 am at the Castle Hotel is the brilliant and very experienced gardener and author Stephanie Hafferty, her talk is called
"Climate change gardening – How to adapt your garden to grow food year round "

A positive look at how we can adapt our gardens to cope with climate change.

Stephanie Hafferty is an expert kitchen gardener, permaculturalist, homesteader, and an award winning garden and food writer. She specialises in growing food year round, affordably, using sustainable methods, and creating recipes for nutritious meals, as well as home and body care products. With decades of practical gardening and homesteading experience, she has created and worked in organic kitchen gardens on private estates, community gardens, market gardens and for restaurants, as well as in home plots and allotments.

I'm looking forward to this one with our changing weather patterns , growing food has become more of a challenge.

All this week I'm going to be talking about all the wonderful authors and events we have at the Reading the Wild/ Darllen y Gwyllt Lit Fest, Llandovery on the 9th & 10th of May.

To start the festival on Friday 9th at 5.00pm, the lovely Lisa Denison from Quiet Walks will lead a walk from the bookshop.

" A gentle-paced 6km guided walk in the fields and hills surrounding Llandovery with qualified guide, Lisa Denison from Quiet Walks. This walk is for people 18 or over, you’ll need to be able to walk approximately 6km, and able to climb stiles, help available if needed. "
