The standard duration of our Level 3 qualification is 9 months, and our Level 5 is 12 months…
Fast track options for experienced staff are also available with many completing in 4 – 6 months.

We've had a few new employers come to us recently from the Residential Childcare sector... some reporting that they are losing Residential Support Workers due to the Apprenticeship.

One employer had received three resignations during one month!

Employers are saying that learners are bogged down with essay writing, uncomfortable with having to sit Maths, English and ITC exams and dreading End Point Assessment... with one of the main concerns being time.
Reports of learners not progressing, some still on programme after 18/24 months 🙄… and sadly, some really good people deciding to leave the profession altogether.

Employers are also reporting that the required 20% "Off The Job" element creates huge extra staffing costs which are just not sustainable.

All of the employers who have come to us say that the apprenticeship delivery has been pretty much hit and miss, it is stressful and is actually holding people back rather than contributing to staff development and career progression.

We wonder haw many employers can resonate with these findings?

Back to the employer who had three resignations...
Two have secured roles in a different sector... and we're delighted to report that the third, a lady who has been a valued member of her team for the past 16 months has remained in her role and is progressing extremely well in her Level 3 Diploma with Watts Training... in fact she is on schedule to complete her diploma in under six months.
All without the stress of lengthy essay writing and exams 🙏

Lizzie had been working in Residential Childcare for 14 months and was still to complete her Level 3 QCF qualification in Residential Childcare. Her employer offered the qualification via the apprenticeship route. She was apprehensive about finding the time to complete all the written work... daunted by the thought of having to do functional skills exams and End Point Assessment... and was considering handing in her notice.

A familiar story?

Lizzie loved her job, she had 14 months worth of excellent knowledge and experience and is a brilliant support worker and a valued member of her team.

Lizzie has just completed her qualification with Watts Training in under 6 months, she already had all the knowledge... and just required our smart way of evidence gathering to guide her through.

Thanks to some lovely recommendations from some of our wonderful clients, we’ve had a few new enquiries asking what our availability is and which qualifications we deliver to the sector.
So here is an up to date list 😊

Level 3 RQF Diploma for Residential Childcare (England)

Due to successful completions and an increase in capacity, we are now able to partner with a handful of new to us organisations in the Residential Childcare & Adult Care sectors.

We currently have availability to enrol new learners for the following Diplomas…

Residential Childcare RQF Diploma Level 3 & Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare RQF Level 5, we have availability to start June/ July.
Adult Care RQF Diplomas at Level 2 & 3, we will have availability for starts July/ August.

The duration of these qualifications is typically between 9 – 12 months and our smart approach to evidence gathering means that there is no requirement for lots of written work.

What a treat to have this close to our office 😊…

We all enjoy a brew here at Watts HQ in Llangollen and get through a few litres of milk every week. As part of our efforts to reduce waste, we have recently made the switch to buying locally produced, organic milk in reusable glass bottles.

This morning, whilst collecting our milk for the day… I bumped into and chatted with the farmer who looks after and milks the cows who provide the delicious organic milk for this machine. He was telling me about his herd and his passion for organic farming. The cows are born in Denbighshire, fed on clean Welsh grass and are cared for with the utmost respect. They graze in the fields surrounding Llangollen.

You can’t get more local than that!

The self-service organic milk vending machine is situated at Llandyn Holiday Park, next to Wenffrwd Nature Reserve (previously the old tip) where nature has done an excellent job at reclaiming the site. The wildflower meadow provides food for pollinators and yellow meadow ants. The thick bramble offers safe areas for birds and mammals, as well as blackberries 😊… which we’re looking forward to picking later in the year whilst walking on- route to collect milk for our office brews.

We’re passionate about the wellbeing of our team, our environment, reducing waste and supporting local business… so this makes us so happy 😊

Jess, my assessor has been brilliant, I was so anxious about learning after such a long time and she’s supported me every step of the way, reassuring me and understanding when I’ve been a bit stressed, nothing was too much trouble, I can’t thank her enough… I’ve really enjoyed the whole learning experience”.
