Betsy, Freyja and Phoenix say a massive thank you to a young person they've been working with this year for their presents; they love them ๐Ÿ˜Š

A massive shout out to Betsy, my one in a million dog, and some amazing young people who have worked with her this school year... just look what you've achieved ๐ŸŒŸ Here's a few of the clips we filmed for the school talent show. Working with Betsy involves the ability to read a dog, true understanding and partnership and quick thinking. I'm so proud of this team!

Top tips for the heat!

*Van/car cover: reflective cover (covers the entire vehicle and reflects the heat) We got ours from Amazon.

*Powerful fans: we have a Ryobi one for the van (plus a few smaller ones) and a Levoit smart tower fan in the dog room - I love this as we can control it from our phones

*Limited/no walking exercise - yup, even with two fit sports dogs, and a 14 month Scandinavian Hound and a Eurohound puppy! (A good reason to crate train and teach settle in the house/van)

*Paddling pool dips, long lasting chews and home made ice treats ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Freyja and Arlo doing a demo of some skills we can help you with in our dog training sessions ๐ŸŒŸ
Freyja is our 4 year old Pointer, and Arlo is our 4 year old GSP. We've had Freyja since a puppy, and rehomed Arlo at 18 months. They are both World class canicross dogs, currently on their summer break.

Here they are showing loose lead walking, recall, name recognition, check in, release que and wait on our walk this morning.

Here's a breakdown of what they're doing, focusing on Freyja as she's off lead.

Name = look at me to check in, await next instruction.

Here = come all the way back to me and wait next to me

Okay = you can go

Yes = marker work, you've got it right

Close = walk next to me

Behind = walk behind me

Wait = stop now and stand still until released

Great job, Frey and Arlo ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜Š

Most of the dog training content goes on our bradburn_racing_canisports page, but here's an example of one of the things we train, and could help you with in a training session.

Thresholds! So important because they keep your dog safe, and leads to a calm environment when moving your dog around. Phoenix is our 4 month old Eurohound puppy and she's demonstrating how we teach this in a crate. We will also teach this at the dog gate, door, van door, with her food bowl, etc.

Before teaching this, we've taught Phoenix a marker word "yes" = you've got it right, here's a reward, and "okay" = you can move. Notice I'm keeping this very simple for her and using clear communication; this is so she understands and so I set her up for success.

Training sequence goes like: calmly open crate door, dog moves = door is calmly closed (there's no need to say anything), open crate door and dog stays in the crate = marker word and reward, repeat a few times, open door, dog stays, mark and reward, release command to let dog out ๐Ÿ‘Œ
