Hello! A message for teachers...
Best wishes for the new school year!

I have had several conversations recently with teachers who are worried that there is likely to be less Russian teaching in the UK as a result of the tragedy in Ukraine. To some extent I am sure this is true. We have certainly lost the adult travellers who start Russian to prepare for a holiday trip. We may also lose classes in some schools and AE centres. I noticed that Brasshouse Language Centre where I used to work in Birmingham is not listing a Russian course this year. We used to have seven or eight classes at different levels.

However, today I received the sales report for Ruslan Russian 1 for August. Last year we sold 22 copies in August. This year we sold 173 which is the largest number of books we have sold in August since Ruslan was launched in 1995.

Reasons for this are not clear. My distributor says that a large number of sales have been to people who have hosted or met Russian speaking refugees from the war, but I doubt if this can account for such a large increase. Possibly another reason is that books from Russia are more difficult to import now. But whatever the reason, it is good news!

I hope it will be good for morale for teachers to know of this increase in sales.

Dear Teachers and learners!
The widely acclaimed Ruslan 1 Video Cartoons have now been moved to the Nimble Learning platform. Access to the cartoons will no longer be free of charge, I need to charge £12 for a 12 month login, to cover costs.

The video films include all the Ruslan 1 dialogues and texts, songs and poems.

Teachers - please let your beginner learners know about this, especially any learners who need extra practice or revision.

Dear teachers and learners! Sorry for the long silence. The help I tried to arrange earlier this year for hosts of refugees did not materialise. Unfortunately the charities that I approached were not able to tell families about the offer.

This is to let you know that Ruslan Russian 1 is finally fully available on the new Nimble 2 online learning platform. The interface works brilliantly on all platforms I have tried it with so far. This new version of the Ruslan 1 ebooks includes all the dialogues, recordings, videos, vocabularies, explanations and more than 1000 exercises, all with full sound and illustrations.

For teachers who want to use the programs in the classroom there are free downloads of pages from the book that don't work online.

I am glad to be able to let you know that the interactive ebook versions of Ruslan Russian 1 and 2 are now available as SCORM packages. This is a breakthrough for Ruslan. It means that the ebook versions of the course can now be used in popular learning environments such as the widely used "Blackboard" learning management system.

The Ruslan ebooks are interactive versions of the Ruslan 1 and 2 course books and workbooks including the dialogues, texts, songs and poems, all with full sound, as well as all the Ruslan 1 video animations. There are vocabularies and grammar explanations and 1200 interactive exercise screens, many with sound and pictures. There are translations and dictations.
