In case you’ve not seen it before, this spiky plant is Thorn Apple or Datura stramonium, also known as jamestown w**d, jimson w**d, devil’s apple and devil’s trumpet.

The bottom line is that all parts of it are highly poisonous and hallucinogenic ☠️

It can inadvertently be introduced into gardens in birdseed mix. It is used in tropical-themed gardens, and some herbalists make use of it. But if you have children or pets, this is one plant to swiftly remove from your garden.

It’s easily controlled by hoeing or pulling it out.
Always wear gloves when handling 👍

Sheep resistant plants 🤔❓

One question I’m asked quite regularly is what plants can I have in my garden that sheep won’t eat. Sheep make regular visits to a few of my customers’ gardens but unfortunately, they have pretty catholic taste and are no respecters of lovely plants that have taken time, money and effort to grow.

Not the easiest question to answer but, based on what I’ve observed gets left uneaten and a bleat of research, here goes.

Fuschias. Gorgeous. Blowsy. Long-flowering. Did you know that if you keep them dead-headed regularly and remove the fruiting berries, they will go on flowering well beyond the autumn? If you let the berries grow large, you're basically allowing the plant to put most of its energy into making seeds rather than flowers. So pick them off and look forward to repeat flowering for months to come 😊🌸
