What a weekend! It's been amazing to be invited to this year's 270 Climbing Park festival, delivering no less than 8 workshops, all busy with keen climbers and parents. Several Movement Masterclasses as well as Flagging Masterclasses and Overhang Masterclass, both of which for the first time and went incredibly well.

It's a genuine honour to be delivering with some of the great and the good of UK climbing coaches and other notable people. Names including Guy Davenport DGClimbingCoaching Hannah Morris Bouldering Elizabeth Lawton and good friend Ben Brooks Coaching
(Pictured here in image 4) and many others (whose handles I can't recall right now), the quality of information sharing was off the charts.

Massive thank you to 270 both for the invite and for putting on an incredible event. Cannot wait for the same again next year!

I've been very quiet on socials lately (apologies) and part of that is because of my annual cycle. I haven't shared a diagram in a while so behold! My personal annual cycle.

August has become my downtime; both in my personal climbing and with work. It's a chance for me to both physically and mentally recover, to let all the niggles go away, to catch my breath with me concepts and ideas and to spend some time with my kids. I realised a few years ago that in my personal climbing, I was simply burning out after what was often 11 months of hard effort and - given bouldering conditions aren't ideal right now anyway - it times out nicely.

Physically, it has some backing. Climb Strong - The Coaching Company suggest in their text Unstoppable Force that we should all take a cumulative 4 weeks off training (in my case, the vast majority of my 'training' is on-the-wall so that equates to stopping climbing) and I've found that happens best if I do it in one big hit.

Mentally, trying to train or perform for the rest of the year also takes its toll and decompressing over the summer with other activities works well for me. John Kettle suggested to me that having an activity that isn't climbing can be beneficial and he's totally right, it's been great getting on the bike lately.

And it all ties in with my concept of Seasonal Goal Setting with two distinct seasons split when the clocks change. This concept has created a rough schedule for me for any point during the year. It's something I'll be looking to develop for use with regular clients moving forward.

But I'll get to that in September once my break has finished 😄

Honestly, conditions aren't ideal for either really; this baking heat not ideal. Still, it does mean that pretty much any venue is dry, so it does mean it's a good opportunity to make the most.

My magic touch for venue choice with boulders seemed to strike again yesterday, too. The best thing about having been around here for so long is that I'm familiar with the majority of boulders and the best spot i could think of for the right grades in the shade was the Brenin boulder. And I must admit I was relieved to be proven right. Matty ticked off a couple of good lines, trying another two that didn't quite go, giving him something to come back to next time.

Then today, time for something completely different. Yes, they're still climbing but you can't really find too more varied climbs than The Hobbit 6c+ and Avalanche/Red Wall/Longlands S 4b. Yet this is one of the things that makes climbing so special and yet again, I was thrilled to be part of this amazing week for him.

So I’ve been resting a little wear and tear injury for a few months and hope to add more cragside coaching to my menu from here on in!

This is definitely something I will be incorporating as of now each season.

I’ve not managed to enjoy any quality mountain days for me or with friends much at all since starting my business. This is the second repetitive injury that’s impacted my life/work so it’s time for a change.

How can you help? By adding climbing coaching into your adventure days… this really contributes to your mountain scramble game…

I am the proof! 🐐
