🌱🌸 Some growth happens quietly… until one day, it blooms.🌸🌱

Yesterday was my final online Language for Fun class before the summer break.

And this morning, I looked at this beautiful foxglove growing in my garden and it made me smile. 💗

I grew it from seed last year.

For months… nothing spectacular.
Just leaves.
Quiet growth.

And then suddenly… this! 🌸✨

It reminded me so much of learning French.

Week after week, my learners build little pieces:
🌻 a new word
😎a new sound
🌞a little more confidence
🌻the courage to speak without worrying about mistakes

Sometimes you don’t notice the progress day by day…

Until one day, you realise:
“I’m actually speaking French!” 💬🇫🇷

That is the moment I love most as a teacher. ❤️

Thank you to all my wonderful learners for another year of laughter, conversations and French moments together.

My classes are now taking a little summer break ☀️ but if you’ve been thinking about starting French, or rebuilding your confidence, this is the perfect time to get in touch.

📩 Send me a message and let’s chat about finding the right course for you from August.

🏡🇫🇷💚 Could this be your second home in France?

Today feels like the end of a beautiful era.

After 8 incredible years together, one of my most dedicated learners, Teresa, is stepping away from French for now.

Over those years, I’ve had the joy of watching confidence grow, laughter shared in class, and genuine friendships formed within the group. Moments like these are never just “lessons” they become part of your story. 🇫🇷✨

At the same time, there’s something very special to share this week…

Teresa has now put her beautiful home in France on the market.

This house has been part of her family life for 17 years! a second home filled with memories, sunshine, visits, and so many French moments lived fully in real life, not just in lessons.

It’s located in Charente, and it has meant so much to her over the years. Now it’s time for someone else to create their own story there. 🏡🇫🇷

👉 Full details in comments

If anyone in my network has ever dreamed of a second home in France, this could be your sign.

And because this place is so connected to our French for Fun journey… I’d love to offer something a little special:

✨ 50% off any Language for Fun course for the new owners, a small gift from me to support their French adventure 🇫🇷

It’s not about selling. It’s about passing on something that has meant a great deal, and hopefully opening a new door for someone else.

To my learner Teresa ♡ merci beaucoup ♡ for 8 wonderful years. I will genuinely miss you in our French sessions, and I wish you nothing but the very best for what comes next.

And of course, you’ll always be welcome to join Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland Café Bavard whenever you’re ready.

If you feel moved to share this, I would be truly grateful.

The first WhatsApp message I sent this morning went to... 💚
..the person who inspired me to enter my very first business awards.

Yesterday, I found out that I'm a finalist in the Customer Excellence Award at the Class Business Awards. 🏆

This morning, before doing anything else, I wanted to say thank you.

"Thank you for all your energy, encouragement, and for inspiring so many small business owners to shine."

Before this year, I'd never entered a business award.

Now, I can honestly say that whatever happens next, the journey has already been worth it.

The reflection.
The confidence.
The support.
The wonderful people I've met along the way.

Sometimes all it takes is one person believing in you before you believe in yourself.

I'm honoured and absolutely thrilled to be a finalist, and so grateful to the judges who voted for me.

Now I look forward to finding out the next step... and then giving it everything I've got between now and October! 💪🏆

Oh... and I can't wait to celebrate with Krissy and all my fellow Class Business business owners Rachel Peebles La Jolie Ronde Language for Fun ! 🎊✨🥂

Thank you Kristine Monaghan 💚

🇫🇷 If you could only choose ONE French dish, which would it be?

I was scrolling through LinkedIn yesterday when I came across a fun post from Kenneth asking people to choose between 3 delicious meals.

My answer?

🥩 Steak, please Kenneth!

Although, being French, I couldn't resist making a few changes...

Steak frites salade verte 😋

Swap the jacket potato for crispy French fries and the asparagus for a fresh green salad and now we're talking!

That inspired me to create my own French version featuring 3 classic dishes that many of you know and love.

🥩 Steak Frites Salade Verte
A perfectly cooked steak served with golden French fries and a fresh green salad. Simple, timeless and absolutely delicious.

🍷 Coq au Vin
Tender chicken slowly cooked in red w**e with mushrooms, onions and herbs. One of the great comfort dishes of French cuisine.

🧅 Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée
Rich onion soup topped with toasted bread and melted cheese. The ultimate French comfort food on a chilly day.

Merci Kenneth for the inspiration! 🇫🇷❤️

We all need un "ventilateur de cou" this week, don't you agree? 🥵😅

What a great tip from one of my En vacances learners!

At the end of each lesson, we have an "All About Me" section. Not only do we look up tailored vocabulary, but we also share new words and expressions with each other. It's always one of my favourite parts of the lesson because the French we learn is immediately useful in real life.

This week, I made the activity very practical:

👜 Prenez votre sac !
(un sac à dos, un sac à main, un sac de sport...)

Then describe what you have inside.

That's when Gaynor told us about her "ventilateur de cou" and Cheryl showed us her "rouge à lèvres".

By the way, even if it's pink, it's still called un rouge à lèvres in French! 💄🇫🇷

So, like Cheryl found out, if she wanted to buy a pink lipstick in France, she would ask:

« Un rouge à lèvres rose, s'il vous plaît. »

That's exactly why the Language for Fun method that I currently use has been working so well for 18 years. It's all about YOU!

It's about learning the words you need, so you can use them when you make sentences, have conversations, travel, or chat with me and your classmates in French.

So, looking at my poster, can you match these French words to the correct numbers? 🤔

• un stylo
• un sac ramasse-crottes
• un paquet de mouchoirs en papier
• un rouge à lèvres
• un ventilateur de cou

One of them happens to be my best suggestion so far, which I'll be sharing with Helen tonight 😅, but I'm very open to better ideas from any native French speakers out there!

After all, I only have Orson 😻

Over to you...

💬 What's one item in your bag that you'd love to know how to say in French? Tell me below and I'll translate it for you!

The power of surrounding yourself with the right people. 💙

Yesterday’s Language for Fun online Sunday afternoon conference, hosted at Rachel’s house, was the perfect moment to reflect on how far I’ve come.

It was also a wonderful reminder that no matter how long we've been teaching, there is always more to learn.

From dyslexia and dictogloss to teaching materials and marginal gains, the day was packed with ideas, inspiration and practical tips.

A huge thank you to Jessica Ruth Bonnard, Bethan Holly Thompson, Lucy Martin, Haycock and guest speaker Heather for sharing their expertise and helping us all become even better teachers for our learners.

One of the highlights of the day was hearing the growth of my business acknowledged.
Which would not happen without the successful launch of Spanish for Fun ~ Livingston with my first Spanish tutor, Rakel Fernandez. 🇪🇸✨

It was a proud moment.

A reminder that growth rarely happens alone.

It happens because people encourage each other.

Support each other.

And inspire each other to keep going.

Merci mon amie Rachel 🇫🇷

Gracias mi amiga Rachel Peebles 🇪🇸

For being not only a fellow La Jolie Ronde licensee and Language for Fun franchisee, but also a treasured friend for almost 10 years.

Thank you for your knowledge, energy, encouragement and unwavering support. 💙

Here's to a summer of learning, growing and helping more people discover the joy of languages.

Until we meet again in person in London this October. 🇫🇷🇪🇸🇬🇧✨
