Tomorrow we’ll be sharing the story of Dolly Parton, not just a music legend with amazing hair, also a woman who believed every child should have the chance to love books.

Through her Imagination Library, Dolly has helped put millions of books into children’s hands, inspiring curiosity, imagination and a love of stories from the very beginning.

What an amazing legacy 💖

🐝 The bee sensory tray is having its last hurrah before the autumn trays start making an appearance… 🍂

The kids have absolutely loved our bee tray over the summer. There has been lots of scooping, pouring, hiding and finding.

Even though the weather is starting to cool down, there are still so many things to explore outdoors. Today is its final outing before we start to welcome autumn with leaves, pumpkins and all the lovely seasonal treasures… 🍁

As I look ahead to the summer holidays, I want to give a shout out to my non-childminding friends, just as I so often do to my fellow childminders.

It's a careful balancing act at times, juggling being a childminder with being a mum to my own children. I want to make sure they have a fantastic summer holiday, spending time with their own friends and making memories. At the same time, I have a responsibility to make sure my mindees have a wonderful summer too, and aren't just tagging along.

That's why I'm so grateful for my friends. Whenever we're invited to join them and their children, they always take my mindees into consideration too.

It means more than they probably realise. Their kindness helps make the summer holidays special for all of the children, not just my own.

Who could ask for a better bunch of friends to head into summer with?

Today we just popped into Edinburgh to watch trains.

Except it's never just a trip to Edinburgh.

We talked about time and how many minutes it was until our train.

We located the correct carriage with space for the buggy. "Look for the blue strip over the door, Kathleen."

We listened for our stop and worked out how many stations we had to go until Waverley.

We navigated our way out of the station.

We practised patience with so many tourists (a valuable skill we'll definitely need in August!).

We counted trains, carriages, gulls and pigeons.

We examined an enormous thistle and measured ourselves against it.

We found our train on the departure board and located the right platform.

We looked for the blue strip again.

We had a lovely day.

And yes, we watched trains too.
