JYHS Library

JYHS Library The school library is the heart of the school providing research materials and support, mental health support and social opportunities.

It is far more than just books. JYHS Library is run by a Chartered School Librarian. The library supports the whole school, to inspire a love of reading, and help pupils learn key information literacy and study skills that will help them throughout their lives.

A new year means a re-launch of all the library clubs - so here is everything we are offering this academic year.

New for this year are Telling Tales and Folklore Friday - I am waiting to see if there is any uptake as I’ve had different pupils tell me only one day would work for them - so we may consolidate it to one club over the year. The idea is to share Scottish folklore stories plus other myths and legends from around the world.

Pupils win! In our staff vs pupil pride quiz, the pupils are in the lead (they have won 3 out of the 4 years so far!).

Commiserations to Ms Robinson, Ms Rooney, Mr McIlroy and Mr Graves for trying to win for the staff (thanks for volunteering). Congratulations to our pupil winners - Jessica, Bethany, Alex and Chloe!

Thanks also to Mr McKenna for his kazoo work, Mrs Hart for being our adjudicator, Mrs Pirie for Quiz Mastering and Jamie for his excellent quiz.

Pride week is nearly over but as always a massive thanks to all the staff and pupils who have joined in the fun from wearing colours to running a session - as always you’ve all been amazing!

Pride Day was a huge success again. 46 pupils joined in the fun as we learned about LGBTQ+ icon Sally Ride, made our own space patch stickers, launched our rockets, held our drag teddy parade and heard from two amazing Just Like Us ambassadors who visited as well! 🏳️‍🌈

It’s worth remembering that the reason we need to celebrate JYHS Pride Week is because being LGBTQ+ isn’t safe everywhere. There are a number of countries in the Men’s World Cup where being LGBTQ+ is illegal and 3 where LGBTQ+ people can be given the death penalty.

Kicking off the school Men’s World Cup celebrations in the library today with an Equali-teas session on President Trump and hosting the event. Plus a new display highlighting LGBTQ players (as the World Cup takes place over our Pride Week) with free football books for pupils to keep. 🏳️‍🌈
