As part of Scottish Employability Day on 10th September, Access2Employment is taking our Employability Roadshow into local communities across West Lothian.

The roadshow is a great opportunity for local residents to meet a range of employability, training, education and support organisations in one place, have an informal chat with advisers and find out what support is available to help them move towards employment, training or their next opportunity.

Roadshow dates and locations
β€’ 7th September – Armadale PC: 10am–1pm
β€’ 8th September – Bridgend Community Centre: 10am–1pm
β€’ 9th September – Blackburn PC: 10:30am–1:30pm
β€’ 10th September – Boghall Drop in: 10am–1pm
β€’ 11th September – Livingston: 10am–3pm – venue to be confirmed

There will be A2E and a range of local partners and services attending across the different locations.

There will also be arts and crafts activities for children at the roadshows from 7th–10th September, making the events more family-friendly and giving parents/carers the opportunity to speak with the different services while their children take part in an activity.

Inspiring the next generation of engineers!

Through a heat pump innovation challenge, a team of five pupils developed creative and practical solutions while building valuable STEM, teamwork, problem-solving, and presentation skills. The project helped raise awareness of sustainable energy and connected classroom learning with real-world engineering opportunities.

The team's hard work paid off as they won the competition, and, most importantly, all five pupils were inspired to consider future careers in the engineering and green technology sectors. Their success and experience will encourage others to explore the exciting opportunities available in this growing industry.

DYW West Lothian was delighted to welcome partners, employers, stakeholders, and Board members to its AGM at Macdonald Houstoun House on 27 August 2026.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year, celebrate the impact of partnership working across West Lothian, and share plans and priorities for the year ahead. Attendees also had the chance to meet members of the Board and connect with others who are passionate about supporting young people as they progress into the world of work.

A sincere thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. The continued support and collaboration of employers, educators, and partners play a vital role in helping young people develop the skills, experiences, and opportunities they need to succeed.

We look forward to building on this year's successes and continuing to strengthen connections between education and industry across West Lothian.

Inspiring the next generation of STEM talent! πŸ”¬βš™οΈπŸ’»

Through an engaging visit to the Glasgow Science Centre, pupils gained valuable insight into the exciting world of STEM careers and discovered how classroom subjects connect to real-life opportunities.

The experience helped pupils:
βœ… Explore a wide range of STEM career pathways and industries
βœ… Challenge stereotypes and see diverse role models working in STEM
βœ… Build confidence, curiosity, problem-solving and teamwork skills
βœ… Learn about careers beyond traditional STEM roles, including data science, environmental science and engineering

The impact was clear, with pupils returning to school more engaged in science lessons and showing increased awareness of future career opportunities. Encouragingly, many female pupils reported feeling more confident about pursuing STEM subjects and careers after meeting women already working in the sector.

πŸ’¬ "I didn't realise how many different jobs there are in science. It made me think about choosing science subjects in the future."

πŸ’¬ "It was good seeing women working in STEM – it made me feel like I could do that too."
