We are saddened to hear of the passing of David Hockney, one of the most influential and celebrated British artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Bowes Museum has been privileged to display Hockney's work, including N**e, 17 June 1984, which currently hangs in the Blue Picture Gallery.
From his iconic Californian scenes to his later experiments with digital media, Hockney remained a restless innovator and a passionate advocate for the power of art to help us look more closely at the world around us. His influence on generations of artists, designers and makers is immeasurable.

Our regular schedule for lifedrawing sessions start back this week coming. That’s back to our usual Monday nights at Rough Trade and continuing with our Wednesdays at John Archer. All sessions run 7-9 and can be booked in advance on Eventbrite (and Rough Trade’s sessions can also be found on their Dice platform) or paid on the door cash or card. You just need sketchbook and basic drawing kit and we have some spare bits you can also use. Session caters to any level of skill and experience even if you’ve never drawn before . Come draw with us and have fun.

So after years of teaching the academic discipline of life drawing, the cornerstone of Western art practice for half a millennia, an hour ago Insta decided to shadow ban our account by describing it as “sexually explicit or suggestive” What a fascinating use of AI nonsense. Perhaps they will now do the same to all figural art since the Renaissance since that too is based on life drawing? Well done Zuckerberg- your platforms which manage to be manipulative and sinister data brokers for authoritarian governments but also laughably naive and cringingly prudish at the same time. Slow clap for that 🤦♂️ - pathetic
