After the children had burned off some of their excited energy this morning, they became much calmer so I decided to get out some clay for the children to work with. They wanted to create their own fossils so we used our model dinosaurs to make marks in the clay, just like some that we see in the World Museum

A busy day for the children. Despite it being the school holidays, they explored some of the new materials on the shelves: the Decanomial Box, sensorially and concretely inquiring into multiplication and multiples before the abstract idea settles while the child works through many materials and activities as they get older, and the Adjective Detective Box (not pictured), where the children have to discover which triangle you're thinking of by finding out its colour, size and what kind of triangle it is. I also put out some dinosaur activities which the children loved.

A fun day out had by all at Red Door Montessori today. We took the ferry across the Mersey to Eureka! Museum Lots of science, including a science show demonstrating how vehicles work which the children loved! Then back on the ferry. Everyone, including me, was absolutely shattered when we arrived back.

I've been taking a break from social media, partly for a mental health rest, but mostly to transition my setting. Over the next school year, as some of the children with me are already being home educated and others age out of the Early Years, I will be moving towards working with more home educated children, those for whom the mainstream doesn't always work, and even those who do go to a mainstream school but have one day where they come to a Montessori setting to learn different kinds of skills, working at their own pace.

This week, I have spent every day workshopping upper primary (age 9-12) maths, language, and geometry with Helen Prochazka and the

I have learned so much and collaborated with tutors and colleagues to deepen my understanding of the concepts, some of which were very shaky from my own education, with division being my weakest.

The exam this morning was a little bit nightmare-inducing as I pulled two division questions, but I redeemed myself by showing the tutors how I had worked out a problem we had all wrestled with yesterday, trying to find the square root of a very large number that none of us could solve (see the last picture).

Suffice to say I passed this year's practical exam and this year's essays. One year to go for me to be qualified as a Montessori 6-12 teacher 😊 A quick change in trajectory will then see me working with parents as a Montessori Home Education hub.
