Today is GCSE Results Day …. a day filled with anticipation, excitement and, for many young people, enormous pressure.
As we await the arrival of our own young people at Employability Solutions to collect their results, we want to recognise something far more important than the grades printed on a piece of paper: the hard work, courage and effort that brought them to this point.
Whatever the results, that effort deserves to be seen, recognised and valued.
We also want to acknowledge the young people who, for all sorts of reasons, were unable to sit some or all of their GCSE examinations. Illness, poor mental health, exclusion, disrupted education and difficult life circumstances can all affect a young person’s journey. Not receiving a grade today does not mean that they have failed, and it certainly does not mean that their future has been decided.
In mainstream education, GCSE results can sometimes be presented as a life-or-death moment. They are important , but they are not the only measure of intelligence, ability, potential or future success.
Success is not defined by GCSE grades.
Academic achievement does not have to follow a straight line, and there are many different paths to a fulfilling life and career.
How many young people graduate from university and find their future in a completely different field?
How many take a part-time job while studying, only to discover a new passion and career path?
How many successful entrepreneurs were told they had “failed” at school, yet went on to win in business and in life?
Qualifications can open doors, but so can determination, creativity, relationships, experience and the courage to keep going.
Character, confidence and resilience are the true hallmarks of employability. At Employability Solutions Ltd we develop and celebrate ALL of these qualities alongside academic achievement because we know that, to truly thrive, young people must be ready for learning, earning and life.
To every young person receiving results today: be proud of how far you have come. Your grades are part of your story …. they are not the whole story, and they do not define your future…
Your future is yours to build. 💛
